Vern Newsom Sr.
GALLUP Funeral services for Laverne Gene Newsom, Sr., 47, will
be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18 at Rollie Mortuary. Pastor Gene Turk
will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held today, May 17 from 2-6 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary.
Newsom died May 15 in Gallup. He was born May 25, 1957 in Jamestown.
Newsom was an artist and attended the University of Colorado. He served
in the US Navy.
Survivors include his father, Howard Newsom of Gallup; mother, Arlyss
Newsom of Gallup; daughter, Arlyss Marie Newsom of Phoenix; sisters,
Teresa Matajcich, Rosalyn "Lynn" Newsom both of Gallup; brothers,
David Newsom of Phoenix, Morgan Newsom of Gallup.
Newsom Sr. was preceded in death by his son, Vern Newsom, Jr.; brother,
Quentin Newsom; grandparents, Gladys and Walter Newsom, Adalina Rohrer
and Bill Rohrer.
Pallbearers will be Grady Campbell, John Matajcich, Raul Rangel, Henry
Rubio, Bobby Silva and Genaro Villanueva.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Tsosie
WHITE CLAY Graveside services for Pauline Zah Tsosie, 84, will
be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18 on family land in White Clay.
Tsosie died May 15 in Winslow. She was born March 1, 1921 in Chinle
into the Red Running into Water Division of the Apache Tribe for the
Towering House People Clan.
Tsosie was a rug weaver and homemaker. She enjoyed horseback riding,
church, sheepherding and singing.
Survivors include her sons, Henry Tsosie of Pinon, Leonard Tsosie of
White Clay; daughters, Sally Ann Billiman of Buelle Park, Agnes T. Whitehair
of Pinon, Dorothy Ann Nez of Navajo; sister, Lois Dale Tsosie of White
Clay.
Tsosie was preceded in death by her spouse, John Jay; father, Zah Tsosie;
brothers, Kee T. Zah, Christopher Tsosie, Kenneth Tsosie; sisters, Daisy
Mae Tsosie, Susie Tsosie and son, Raymond Tsosie.
Pallbearers will be Randy Ray Whitehair, Raymond Whitehair, Jr., Dominic
D. Nez, Leon Billiman, Jaken J. Shorty and Tyrone Billiman.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the family residence
in White Clay, six miles north of old Sawmill LDS church.
Art Guzman
RIO RANCHO Funeral Mass for Art Guzman, 49 will be at 1 p.m.
on Wednesday, May 18 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Rio Rancho.
Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Albuquerque.
A visitation will be held this evening, May 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Alameda
Mortuary. A rosary will be recited this evening at 7 p.m.
Guzman died May 14 in Albuquerque. He was born June 18, 1955 in Winslow.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Guzman of Rio Rancho; son, Stevie Guzman
of Albuquerque; daughters, Debby Mayen of Chicago, Sara Lane, Erin Lane
both of Rio Rancho; mother, Bea Guzman of Rio Rancho; brothers, Rick
Guzman of Albuquerque, Ruben Guzman of Belen; sisters, Linda Molina
of Albuquerque, Becky Herrera of Santa Fe, Mercy Gonzalez of Gallup
and Lorie Garcia of Rio Rancho.
Guzman was preceded in death by his father, Joe Guzman.
Pallbearers will be Rick Guzman and Ruben Guzman.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Bea Guzman's residence
after services.
Virginia V. Chino
GRANTS Funeral Mass for Virginia V. Chino, 91, was at 10 a.m.
this morning, May 17 at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Father Ulrich Pax
will officiate. Interment will follow at Acomita Community Cemetery.
Visitation was held on May 16 at the Chino home at 5 p.m. A rosary followed
at 7 p.m.
Chino died May 14 in Grants. She was born Feb. 17, 1914 in Acoma.
Chino was a lifelong resident of Acoma. She was active in the Acoma
Senior Citizens. She competed in the Senior Olympics in N.Y. in track
and field.
Survivors include her sons, Gilbert Fernando, Anthony Fernando, Donald
Chino, all of Acomita; daughter, Pearl Salas of Zia Pueblo; nine grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Chino was preceded in death by her parents, James Vallo and Concepcion
Pino Vallo.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
Jackson Tyler
IYANBITO Services for Jackson Tyler, 38, are pending.
Tyler died May 15 in Iyanbito. He was born Jan. 26, 1967 in Gallup into
the Gray Streaked Ends People Clan for the Water Flows Together People
Clan.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
