JROTC on school board's agenda

GRANTS — The summer food program as well as a performance by the award-winning Grants High School JROTC Drill Team highlight the Grants-Cibola school board agenda today.

The drill team recently competed against dozens of drill teams from throughout the nation and took top honors.

It has a planned performance demonstration for the board, followed by recognition from the board.

In other business, school district food service coordinator Pauline Barker is expected to present information on the summer food program for schools in the county and Milan.

"We need to have the board pass a resolution allowing the county and the village to use the schools during the summer food program," she said.

The schools the county will use are Bluewater, San Rafael and Cubero elementary schools.

Milan will use Milan Elementary School.

Barker is also expected to present information on a "wellness program."

Any school district that is part of the National School Lunch Program is expected to have a wellness program in place by the 2006 school year, she said.

Also on the agenda is a presentation by Los Alamitos Middle School counselors, Rosemary Sanchez and Rosemary Trujillo.

The school district's budget and finance office will present information for action on tax compliance certificates, budget adjustments, bills, payrolls and expenditures.

Superintendent Kilino Marquez is scheduled to present the board with information on summer work hours for the school district.

  • May 20, GHS graduation at 7 p.m.
  • May 21, LAHS graduation at 10 a.m.
  • May 24, special board meeting, not open to the public.
  • May 27, last day of school
  • May 30, Memorial Day, district closed
  • June 3, New Mexico School Board Association law conference (June 2 for new board members)
  • June 7, school board meeting.

An executive session is scheduled to discuss personnel. collective bargaining and pending litigation. Executive sessions are closed to the public by state law.

The board meets at 6 p.m., in the board room on the south campus of GHS at the southwest corner of the intersection of Washington Avenue and North First Street.
