Zuni PD seeks help in solving assault

ZUNI — Zuni police are seeking the public’s help in solving an assault case stemming from an incident in May.

Michael Calavaza suffered severe injuries in the May 27 assault. Police had responded to an early morning call about an altercation between several males at 1314 New Mexico Highway 53.

Police found Calavaza with large lacerations to his head, face and arms. His upper front teeth were broken off, and his left middle finger was broken.

A witness at the scene told police that two unidentified men were seen leaving the area after the alleged altercation.

The first suspect was described as “tall male, bald headed, with a dark complexion, wearing baggy pants and a green South Pole shirt.”

The second suspect was described as being approximately 5’6’’ in height, wearing a black shirt and a New York Yankees baseball cap.

The two men beat Calavaza with a metal pipe, according to the witness.
