Gertrude Brown
SAWMILL Funeral Mass for Gertrude Marie Brown, 90, will
be 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament
Church, Fort Defiance. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, OFM will officiate.
Private disposition will be in family plot, Sawmill. Visitation
will be 9-10 a.m., Jan. 23, at the Church. A rosary will be recited
today, Jan. 22.
Brown died Jan. 20, 2009, in Sawmill. She was born Aug. 10, 1918,
in Sawmill, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Edge Water
People Clan.
Brown attended Saint Michaels Mission School. She was employed
in Sawmill for several years. Her hobbies included being a homemaker,
gardener, farmer, weaver, riding horse, story telling, and spending
time with family.
Survivors include her sons, Anthony Brown of Red Mesa; daughters,
Laura Bia of Sawmill, Mary Van Winkle of Sawmill, Cecelia Watchman
of Sawmill; 30 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Zonnie Willeto, John
Smith; husband, Willie Brown; daughters, Stella Lawless, Mary
Louise Brown; sisters, Clara Segay, Mary Willeto; brother, Sam
Smith.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Catholic Fellowship
Hall, Sawmill.

Marilyn Cardy
GALLUP Funeral services for Marilyn Anne Cardy, 48, will
be Friday, Jan. 23, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church.
Brother Robert Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset
Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will be 9-9:45 a.m., Jan. 23,
at the LDS Relief Society Room.
Cardy died Jan. 17, 2009, in Laguna. She was born Feb. 11, 1960,
in Gallup, into the Red Running Into Water Division People Clan
of the Zuni People Clan for the Red House People Clan.
Cardy attended school in Tabiona, Utah and Prince, Utah, Tohatchi,
and Ganado. She earned her degree in travel and tourism from North
American College in Phoenix. She worked in construction as a roofer,
carpenter, heavy equipment operator, flagger and foreman. Cardy
loved to travel, listen to music, and was extremely fond of animals.
Survivors include her son, Richard Allen Pate; mother, Jennie
Benward; brothers, Wayne C. Benward Sr., Wesley C. Benward, J.R.
Benward, Wendell Benward; sisters, Vera J. Cardy, Andrea A. Hoffman,
Jacqueline C. Benward; grandparent, Sam Mose; one grandchild.
Cardy was preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin Cal
Cardy, Ferlin Hoskie; grandfathers, Tom Irving, Dennis Irving;
grandmothers, Frances Mose, Blanche Irving.
Pallbearers will be Frank Brown, Timothy Johns, Leon Etsitty,
Eugene C. Etsitty, Larry S. Begaye, Matthew Begay.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, Gallup, 12-2:30 p.m., following
services.
Paul Charley
BLACK MOUNTAIN Funeral services for Paul Burbank Charley,
62, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at Black Mountain Mission.
Frank James will officiate. Burial will be in Black Mountain Cemetery.
Charley was born Oct. 1, 1946, in Black Mountain, into the One
Walks Around People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People
Clan for the Tobacco People Clan.
Charley attended Chimawa Oregon High School, Phoenix Indian School.
He was employed as a laborer in const. trades and then retired.
His hobbies included ranch work, and helping people.
Survivors include his sons, Paul Charley Jr., Paulson Charley;
daughter, Elisa Charley Trujillo; brothers, Dave Burbank, Jimmy
Charley, Henry Charley; sister, Mary Burbank; 15 grandchildren.
Charley was preceded in death by his father, Tulley Charley;
mother, Ella Mae Burbank.
Pallbearers will be Paul Charley Jr., Paulson Charley, Terry Harrison,
Ronald Hannette, Dave Burbank.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Rita Harrison
residence, 1/4 mile north of Black Mountain Mission, following
services.

John Foster
SHEEPSPRINGS Services are pending for John Y. Foster,
80.
Foster died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, in Farmington. He was born
June 7, 1928, in Toadlena.
Desert View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Billy Manuelito
CLEVELAND Services for Billy Manuelito, 77, will be 10
a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at Newcomb Assembly of God. The Rev. Duane
Hammond will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Newcomb.
Manuelito died Jan. 18, 2009, in Cleveland. He was born July
25, 1932, in Newcomb, into the Many Hogans People Clan for the
Joining of the Water People Clan.
Manuelito served during the Korean Conflict as the Post Generals
driver. He was discharged from the Army in 1955. He moved to Denver,
Colo. until 1977, at which time he moved to Houston, Texas. There
he worked at the Houston Chronicle until his retirement in 1999.
Manuelito was married to Marie for 53 years.
His hobbies included making leather and jewelry. He later moved
back to New Mexico for his retirement dreams.
Survivors include his son, Paul Talk; daughters, Daisy Tobias,
Barbara Gutierrez, Beverly Manuelito, Betty Motelongo; brother,
Davis Manuelito; sisters, Nettie Silentman, Frances Manuelito;
12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
Manuelito was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Manuelito;
parents, Stephen and Mary Manuelito; sister, Helen Manuelito.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Begaye, Joe Tobias, Daniel Gutierrez,
Patrick Gutierrez, Adam Curow, Ramon Montelongo III.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Newcomb Assembly
of God, Newcomb.

Richard Monarque
GALLUP Services for Richard Monarque, 35, will be 10 a.m.,
Jan. 24, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Burial will be in Gallup
City Cemetery. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Jan. 23, at Rollie
Mortuary.
Monarque died Jan. 15, 2009, in Rio Rancho. He was born Nov.
5, 1973, in Holbrook.
Monarque received his GED. He was a freelance artist. His hobbies
included drawing, being a father, and being with his family.
Survivors include his son, Richard Monarque Jr.; daughters, Monique
Monarque, Alexius Monarque, Ashley Kinsel, Amanda Kinsel; parents,
Alice Estrada, Louis Ernest Monarque, Hector Estrada Sr.; brothers,
Ernest Monarque, Frankie Monarque, Hector Estrada Jr., Hilario
Estrada; sister, Denise Monarque.
Monarque was preceded in death by his grandmother, Estella Roberts;
grandfather, Ramon G. Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Denise Monarque, Frankie Monarque, Ernest
Monarque, Hilario Estrada, Hector Estrada Jr., Ray Roberts Jr.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Roberts residence,
905 Henrietta Dr., Gallup, following services. The family will
meet at Roosevelt Elementary, 400 E. Logan, Gallup.

Olive Russell
TWO WELLS, N.M. Graveside services for Olive Mae Russell,
94, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at Pine Tree Cemetery, Vanderwagen.
The Rev. Jake Yazzie Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pine
Tree Cemetery.
Russell died Jan. 20, 2009, in Gallup. She was born March 16,
1914, in Two Wells, N.M., into the White Mountain Apache Edgewater
People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.
Russell attended St. Michael Catholic School. She enjoyed farming,
weaving, tending to her sheep and being a homemaker. She was very
energetic and outgoing. She was very active in her community.
Survivors include his sons, Leo R. Etsitty, Raymond Boyd, Carl
Boyd, all of Vanderwagen; daughters, Ruth Charley of Ramah, Lucy
Antone of Coolidge, Lottie Bay of Vanderwagen; 67 grandchildren;
68 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by her father, Frank Russell; mother,
Ilnazbah Newman-Begay; son, Mike Etsitty; daughters, Sadie Bay,
Linda R. Barber.
Pallbearers will be family members.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Chichiltah Chapter
House, following services.

Correction for Louise Dale
WIDE RUINS Dale was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Klagetoh, into
the Blackwood Streak People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Dale attended St. Michaels Catholic School up to 3rd grade,
and Fort Apache Boarding School up to 8th grade. She was a homemaker,
and rug weaver. She was a member at Klagetoh Catholic Church.
Her hobbies included sewing, making quilts and sash belts. She
lost her son Bennie R. Dale in the Vietnam War.
Survivors also include her son, Phillip H. Dale.
