REHOBOTH — Friday basketball games, Saturday basketball games, a bevy of former homecoming queens, and a pancake breakfast — it all adds up to Homecoming Weekend at Rehoboth High School.

Flo Barton, the school’s alumni coordinator, is inviting the public to all of this weekend’s events. A gathering of former homecoming queens — dating back to 1967 — and a benefit pancake breakfast at Applebee’s — complete with free charter bus ride — are two new events that will be featured this year, she said.

The weekend will kick off at 4 p.m. on Friday with the first of the boys’ basketball games against the Ramah Mustangs at the Rehoboth’s Sports and Fitness Center.

This year’s homecoming queen and king, Jessica Largo and Levi Hale, will be honored during a ceremony held between the JV and varsity games.

A group of special guests, about 15 former homecoming queens, will also be recognized at that time, Barton said.

A number of the other 26 former queens who live across the country have sent e-mails relating their memories of attending the school. Barton said she has been able to get invitations to almost all the 41 women except for the queen from 1984.

The evening will also feature a basketball shooting contest where contestants can win up to $100 and an alumni reception in the Fellowship Hall after the games.

Saturday’s events will start off with the school’s first-ever benefit pancake breakfast at Applebee’s Restaurant, along with a free ride on Rehoboth’s new activity bus. The $5 breakfast, which will run from 7 to 10 a.m., is a benefit for the Student Emergency Tuition Assistance Fund.

According to Barton, the fund assists families that have difficulty paying their child’s tuition due to problems like a parent becoming sick or losing their job.

For those who would like to catch a ride to Applebee’s and ride the new bus — freshly painted in Rehoboth maroon and gold — they should plan to catch it at the Rehoboth church parking lot at either 7 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. Return trips will arrive back at the school at about 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.
