Robert Atkins

MEXICAN SPRINGS — Funeral services are pending for Robert Atkins, 71.

Atkins died March 4, 2009, in Mexican Springs.

He was born March 17, 1937, in Mexican Springs.

A family gathering will be 6 p.m., tonight, March 6, at the Mexican Springs Chapter House.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

James Edwards

GRANTS — Memorial services for James H. Edwards, 71, will be 5 p.m., Saturday, March 7 at Immanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Garland Moore will officiate.

Edwards died March 2, 2009, in Grants. He was born March 14, 1937, in Greenbrier, Ark.
Edwards was a veteran of the US Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Carlene Edwards of Grants; children, Tracy Murrietta of Grants, Jackie Johnson of Milan, Nicole Gaddy of Grants, James Edwards Jr. of Grants; sister, Geraldine Nichols of Livermore, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Edwards and Ruby Edwards.

A reception will be at 820 Lobo Canyon road, following services.

Mary Kinsel

SHIPROCK — Funeral services for Mary Wood Kinsel, 85, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at the First Baptist Church, Shiprock. Burial will be in the family cemetery, Red Valley, Ariz.

Kinsel died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born into the Red House People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Kinsel was raised in Red Valley herding sheep, making rugs, and gathering herbs. After marriage she moved to Shiprock where she and her husband cleared land along the river and began farming. Her self-reliance and testimony resulted in her children and grandchildren being highly educated, serving the public and Christ.

Survivors include her sons, Andrew Begaye, Russell Begaye, Ray Begaye; daughters, Stella Clyde, Roselyn Brown, Alice Norton, Esther Ben; brother, John Wood; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Kinsel was preceded in death by her sons, Raymond Begaye, Ambrose “Roy” Begaye; sisters, Hazbaa Lee, Wilma Dan, Irene Begay, Edith Begay; brothers, David Wood, Sam Wood.

Reception will be at the First Baptist Church, Shiprock, following services.

Joyce Kiszka

GRANTS — Memorial Mass for Joyce Jean Kiszka, 77, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will officiate. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. A rosary will be 7 p.m., tonight, March 6, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Kiszka died March 4, 2009, in Grants. She was born April 27, 1931 in Gatewood, West Virginia.

Survivors include her children, Lillian Gallegos of Grants, Nina Pratz of Albuquerque, Teresa Sumner of Odessa, Texas, Norma Smart of Kennedy, Texas; sister, Orva Howell of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Kiszka was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Kiszka; parents, Clyde Summerfield, Hallie Summerfield; one grandson; sisters, Mildred Light, Frances Crouch.

Marie Toledo

STAR LAKE, N.M. — Funeral services for Marie Rafael Toledo, 75, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at Tinian Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmie A. Etcitty will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Star Lake.

Toledo died March 2, 2009, in Star Lake. She was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Pueblo Alto, into the Towering House People Clan for the Big Water People Clan.

Toledo was a homemaker, rug weaver, did quilting, beadwork and leather crafting. She enjoyed babysitting and loved to be near her grandchildren. She participated in activities with her church. Toledo was a loving mother, sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her sons, Leroy Toledo of Gallup, Kalvin Toledo of Star Lake, Alvin Toledo of Star Lake; daughters, Lena Peter of Albuquerque, Rosie Toledo of Gallup, Lorena Toledo of Crownpoint, Rena Toledo of Albuquerque, Cecelia Toledo of Star Lake; brothers, Leo Rafael of Pueblo Alto, Woody Rafael of Pueblo Alto; sisters, Mabel Rafael of Pueblo Alto, Eva Rafael of Gallup, Martha Rafael of Tiniano; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Toledo was preceded in death by her father, Jose Rafael; mother, Rena Rafael; husband, Kee Toledo; son, Kee Y. Toledo; daughter, Irene T. Francisco.

Pallbearers will be Kalvin Toledo, Leroy Toledo, Raynaldo Toledo, Terry Toledo, Allison Tachine, Nelson Atencio Sr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Tinian Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, following services.
