An 87 year-old Ben Francis sits in his living room on the opposite
side of the wall from his bedroom. He has been forced to leave his
home in Window Rock, Ariz. because he can not afford the higher
rent which his landlord, also a relative, is demanding for the space.
He currently pays $400 a month, while the new rent would be $600.
He lives with his daughter Elvira Francis who has cared for him
for nearly 30 years. Ben Francis has had two heart surgeries since
1998, including a triple bypass. [Photo by Daniel Zollinger/Independent]
