U.S. 491 HEAD-ON: ABOVE: New Mexico State Police Officer Elizabeth Whitfield takes photographs of a vehicle involved in a head-on collision on U.S. 491 Thursday morning near the 27 mile marker. The occupant of the car was transported to Gallup for treatment. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, yet officials on the scene said it was likely. Two bottles of alcohol were reportedly found in the car. Burl Williams, a witness to the crash reported the driver of the car as possible drunken driver at 10:15 am and at 10:21 am he called again to report that that vehicle had crashed.
