Lyndal Bates

TEMPE, Ariz. — Funeral services for Lyndal H. Bates, 49, will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Crownpoint. Pastor Norman Chee will officiate. Burial will be on family land, Nahodishgish.

Bates died June 16, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born June 21, 1958, in Crownpoint, into the Water Flowing Together People Clan for the Sleeping Rock People Clan.

Bates graduated from Crownpoint High School in 1977 and 1984 at Arizona Welding Certificate, 1990 at University of N.M. in Industrial Arts Alumni. A 26 year union member working in the construction, masonary, welding, professions. Lastly employed with Tishman/Marnell Carrao Construction, Carpenters Union Local No. 1977 of Las Vegas, N.V. A equine farrier and horseman by trade, a former saddle brone and roper, qualifying to the National High School Finals Rodeo. His pass time was enjoying rodeos and family cook-outs and gatherings.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne Buckinghorse Bates of Tempe, Ariz.; son, Bronston Bates of Tempe; daughters, Michelle Lynn Bates, Pamela Lynn Bates, both of Tempe, Sherri Buckinghorse of Whippoorwill, Ariz.; brothers, Rich Bates, Matt B. Henry both of Nahodishgish, Will Henry of Dilkon; sisters, Elouise Henry of Crownpoint, Brenda Holgate, Wilhamena Dawes, both of Nahodishgish.

Bates was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest B. Henry; grandparents, Abel H. Bates Sr., and Ella Morgan Bates.

Pallbearers will be Fritzgerald Bates, Devin Henry, Shawn Holgate, Blaine Bates, John Bates, Michael N. Bates.

The family will receive relatives and friends at family home of Louise Bates Henry at Nahodishgish.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Benjamin Jim

GALLUP — Funeral services for Benjamin Jim “Pooh Bear”, 28, will be 10 a.m., June 23, at the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Hansan will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Jim died June 16, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born Sept. 24, 1979, in Fort Defiance, into the Mexican People Clan for the Black Streak of Forest People Clan.

Jim attended Gallup High School. He enjoyed cooking, poetry, listening to heavy metal, spending time with his niece and nephews.

Survivors include his parents, Ben and Emma Jim of Gallup; brother, Billson Jim of Gallup; sisters, Eleanor, Emily Jim of Gallup, Erma Begay of Gallup.

Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Norvin Cadman, Benson Jim; grandparents, Johnnie and Annie Cadman, Navajo and Hasbah Jim.

Pallbearers will be Ben Jim, Billson Jim, Daniel Jim, Danny Jim, Cecil Mike, Arnold Dale, Daryl Cadman and Albert Cadman.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Twin Lakes Chapter, Twin Lakes.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
