Cleveland, Marie

FORT DEFIANCE — Services for Marie Cleveland, 72, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Assembly of God Church, Fort Defiance. The Rev. James Bennett Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Fort Defiance. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Cleveland died July 31, 2008, in Flagstaff. She was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Fort Defiance, into the Rabbit People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan/Salt People Clan.

Cleveland attended school up to the 6th grade and was a homemaker. She was a traditional woman who loved to share stories, and weave and sew. Cleveland enjoyed going to song and dance and was full of good humor and laughter.

Survivors include her sons, Edwin B. Cleveland of Grants, Travis Otis Cleveland of Fort Defiance; daughters, Charlotte M. Gibson of Fort Defiance, Gloria M. James of Gallup, Madeline McCray of Pigeon Springs, N.M., Johanna Dawes of Pigeon Springs, Victoria Cleveland, Georgina Cleveland, both of Fort Defiance, Marilyn Hardy of St. Michaels; brothers, Lawrence Johnson of Fort Defiance, Larry Johnson of St. Johns, Ariz., Armand Johnson of Pigeon Springs, Jeffery Johnson of Fort Defiance, Elvis Johnson of Albuquerque; sisters, Betty Yazzie, Edna M. Yazzie, Elouise Watchman, Darlene Johnson, Marcella Johnson, Sandra Johnson, all of Fort
Defiance; 36 grandchildren; 36
great-grandchildren.

Cleveland was preceded in death by Curtis B. Cleveland, Archie B. Cleveland, Eugene B. Cleveland, and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Emerson Yazzie, Jerry Sherman Sr., Norman Bia, Stanley Bia, Sheldon Bia, Stanson Bia.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Assembly of God Church Activity Hall, following services.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Jones, Leo

ROCK SPRINGS — Services are pending for Leo Tom Jones, 40.

Jones died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, in Tohlakai. He was born July 18, 1968, in Gallup, into the Black Streak of the Forest People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
