GALLUP — Detectives at the Gallup Police Department have been busy investigating a burglary and a robbery; fhe first, a burglary, at the Super 8 Motel occurred Saturday, followed by an unrelated armed robbery at the Giant/Mustang convenience store on the west end of town. The first burglary suspect remains at large.

The second suspect, 18-year-old Jeremy Jenson, who police allege armed himself with a piece of pipe and stole away with liquor, tobacco and cash from the 3302 W. U.S. 66 convenience store, is already in jail. Lt. Rick White of the Gallup Police Department said Jenson’s apprehension came about with the assistance of Navajo Police Department and state police officers at 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, about two hours after Jenson allegedly committed the robbery.

A more vexing case occurred Aug. 23 around midnight when an unknown male walked away from the Super 8 Motel, cash register in hand. According to Gallup Police Officer Roberta Garcia’s report, a Native American man, described as 6 feet tall, with short black hair and a goatee, had been “bothering,” Arvindkumar Patel, for several hours. The report makes no mention of a threat at any time. Patel said the man simply opened the office door, took the cash register and walked out the front door.

Patel said the register had only $100 inside as the money in the drawer had just been secured.

White, a detective with Gallup Police Department, said: “detectives are currently reviewing tapes of the incident.”

He said Crimestoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest of the $100 burglar.

Crimestoppers can be reached at (505) 722-6161.
