Clarence Russell

LEUPP, Ariz. — Services for Clarence Jerry Russell, 80 will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at the Grand Falls church of God Holiness.

Russell died Oct. 18, 2008 in Flagstaff, Ariz. He was born July 28, 1928 in Leupp.

Russell worked as a silversmith and he enjoyed carving kachina dolls. He worked as an interpreter for the LDS Church and as a local missionary for the Assembly of God Church in Bird Springs. He enjoyed playing cards, watching western movies and working on cars.

Survivors include Susie Joe Russell; stepdaughter Mabel Ann Joe; daughters Rosei Ramirez, Maebelle Livingston, Julie Russell, Effie Begay, Anoinette Ingram; sons, Archie Russell, Bobby Russell, Brian Russell and stepsons and stepdaughters in Houck. He is also survived by his sister Violet Tsop and Brother Tom Begay and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Russell, parents John and Cecila Morris Russell and brothers Tommy Russell and Kee Yazzie Meyers.

Amos Nelson

HOUCK, Ariz. — Services for Amos Nelson, 65, will be at 11 a.m. DST on Tuesday, oct. 21, 2008 at San Anselm Mission in Houck. The Rev. Berard Dodrger, OFM, will officiate. Burial will follow at the family cemetery at Wide Ruins, Ariz.

Nelson died Oct. 13, 2008 in Lukachukai. He was born Nov. 20, 1944 in Wide Ruins into the Towering House People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Nelson was a Vietnam veteran. He served with the U.S. Army, 101 Airborn from 1966 to 1970. He was wounded three times, but went back to war to complete his service to his country. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Airborne 101 Parachute Badge and many other medals.

He was a pipe-fitter/welder by trade and worked at several poser plants in Florida, Arkansas, Texas, N.M. and Arizona. When he was young he herded sheep, was a farm and ranch hand and went to a BIA-elementary boarding school in Wide Ruins, Sherman Indian School in Riverside, Calif and he graduated from Fort Wingate High School in 1965.He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth shorty Nez-Nelson of Lukachukai; sons, Ricky of Albuquerque; son Zhealy Tso of Kirtland and Bruce Nez, both of Lukachukai; daughters Audrey, Colleen, Erica Nelson, Marsha Tso, all of Lukachukai; brothers Henry A. Nelson of Burntwater, Ariz, Tommy Nelson of Shiprock; sister Luise J. Nelson of Blue Steel, Ariz. and 20 grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents Gloria (Dabah) and Albert R. Nelson; sisters Lucille Mae Joe, Lynn G. Jensen, Kathleen Morris and Irene Nelson.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Shawn, Jeffery, Jasper, Ricky Nelson and Bruce Nez.
A reception will follow services at Houck Chapter House.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Anderson

GALLUP — Rosary and Mass for Mary Ann Anderson, 51 will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21 at St. Francis Church in Gallup. Rev. Patrick will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Gallup.

Anderson died Oct. 12, 2008 in Phoenix. She was born April 5, 1957 in Gallup.

She was a Gallup High graduate and lifelong resident of Gallup. She enjoyed basketball and in high school she received many awards for softball and basketball. She enjoyed making people laugh, fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys. She worked for her brother’s cleaning business.

Survivors include her brothers Jay Anderson, William Anderson, Edward Anderson Jr., all of Gallup; sisers Caroline Diane McCreight, Shirley Mae Paradise, Susie Anderson, all of Gallup and many neices and nephews.
She was preceded in death by mother Odesbah Dorothy Anderson, father Edward Anderson Sr.; brothers Thomas Arviso, Eddie Arviso Sr.; sister Rosemary Babe Chino.

Pallbearers will be Edward Anderson Jr., John Anderson, Matthew McCreight, William Anderson, John Wesley paradis and Robert Romero.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the First Church of the Nazarene in Gallup.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Leo Nez

WHIPPOORWILL, Ariz — Services for Leo Begay Nez, 66, will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008. Burial will follow in the family plot in Whippoorwill.

Nez was born March 6, 1942 into the Mexican People Clan for the Red Runnng into the Water People Clan.

Survivors include his brother Dallas Begay; sisters Ella Rose Cook, Gloria Ben, Isabelle Tracey.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Henley Begay; sister Lena Begay and both brothers.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Ella Rosa Cook’s residence after services.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Chavez Sr.

THOREAU — Services for Kenneth Chavez Sr., will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at the Thoreau Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Thoreau Community Cemetery.

Chavez died Oct. 17 in Grants. He was born into the Salt People Clan for the Water Edge People Clan.

Chavez went to Indian School in Taos, N.M. He was a retired miner, railroader and ranch hand.
Survivors include his sons Kenneth Chavez, Jr., Mike Chavez, Leslie Chavez, Harold Peralto; daughters Joann Yazzie, Judy Spencer, Virginia Yazzie, Julie Johnson, June Chavez, Delcita Yazzie; 38 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean P. Chavez.

Pallbearers will by Dusty Francisco, Garrison Francisco, Daryl Ray Yazzie, Donovan Chatto, Kenrick Chavez, Jared Mustache.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
