GALLUP — It was a dangerous weekend for travelers.
McKinley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to six wrecks between Saturday and Sunday, most of them on U.S. Interstate Highway 40.

State Police responded to a crash involving a Jeep on Sanostee Drive early Sunday morning. According to Peter Olson, Records Director for the Department of Public Safety, William Cox, 55, of Dickinson, Texas, careened over the right shoulder of Sanostee Drive around 6:15 a.m. Sunday. He overcorrected, banking to the left shoulder, where he again overcorrected and the Jeep began to roll, Olson said.

Olson said Cox had not been wearing a seat belt. Cox suffered a fatal head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
