'Dakota Miracle'

“White Cloud,” the albino bison, stands with her newly named calf, “Dakota Miracle,” in a pasture at the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown, N.D. A contest had been held for the naming of the 4 month-old calf. The white buffalo is sacred to most Plains Indian tribes and is often seen as a sign of great changes in the world. To some tribes it is a blessing. Others believe it is a sign of peace, prosperity, unity and hope. [Photograph Assoicated Press]
