Gallup woman stabs man in self-defense

By Leslie Wood
Staff writer

GALLUP — A Gallup man has undergone surgery at the Gallup Indian Medical Center for a stab wound to the stomach.

Deputy Police Chief John Allen, a spokesman for the Gallup Police Department, said detectives have not been able to interview the man due to his condition and have no personal information about the victim, including his name.

Officers were called to GIMC at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in reference to the man who had been stabbed. Allen said the man sustained the wound during a domestic dispute at a residence on the 700 Block of North Second Street.

The man reportedly began to “poke” a female in the head with a knife when she took the weapon away and stabbed him in the stomach.

She is not facing charges at this time; however, police have not been able to begin interviews in the case due to the severity of the man’s condition.
