Susan Hatch

GALLUP — Burial for Susan Elise Evans Hatch, 66, were today, March 28, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.

Hatch died Tuesday, March 24, 2009. She was born June 11, 1942, in Los Angeles, Calif.
Hatch attended Stoneman Elementary School, Huntington Middle School, South Pasadena Junior High and graduated from San Marino High School in 1960. She received a bachelors degree at Brigham Young University in 1965 majoring in Political Science. She was a member of the Tokalon Social Unit and served as Vakhnom Culture Unit President. Graduate work at the University of Southern California led to a teaching credential she used throughout her life, first in the Los Angeles Unified School District at Charles Drew and Southgate Junior High Schools and later as a substitute teacher in Gallup-McKinley County School District at Gallup High School. At 18, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints. She studied the German language at Goethe-Institute in Bad Aibling and Berlin in 1962.

Survivors include her brother, Daniel Mosby Evans of South Pasadena, Calif.; husband, Richard Argyle Hatch; children, Elise Hadley of Albuquerque, Maxanne Hatch of San Marino, Richard Evans Hatch of Albuquerque, Rachel Elizabeth Hatch of Houston, Texas, Westin Russell Hatch of Palo Alto, Calif.

Hatch was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Barbara Fields; father, Jack Mosby Evans; step-father, Harold Pratt Morgan.

Christine Martin

PINEDALE — Funeral services for Christine Francisco Martin, 74, will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 30, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. The Rev. Robert Arviso will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, 2nd Canyon, Pinedale.

Martin died March 23, 2009, in Pinedale. She was born May 20, 1934, in Rehoboth, into the Mountain Cove People Clan for the Zuni People Clan.

Martin went school at Pinedale Day School, Fort Wingate Elementary, and fished the 6th grade in California. She was employed with Elite Laundry as a presser, a housekeeper for the LDS Church, Gallup, seamstress for One Hour Cleaners, and a custodian with Pinedale Chapter, for many years.

Her hobbies were sewing, embroidering, silversmithing, playing at the casinos, and having company. She loved to cooking and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Martin of Pinedale; brothers, Anderson Mariano of Chichiltah, Clifford Mariano of Pinedale; sisters, Diana F. Begay of Mariano Lake, Marie Morgan of Chichiltah, Alice Begay of Pinedale; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin of Pinedale; mother, Mattie Mariano; father, Henry Francisco; step-father, George Mariano.

Pallbearers will be Al Johh, Luxey Irving, Ross Anderson, Wendall Mariano, Cody Mariano, Andy Mariano.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Pinedale Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Slim

LUPTON — Funeral services for Betty Slim, 76, will be 1 p.m., Monday, March 30, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Slim died March 25, 2009, in Gallup. She was born May 5, 1932, in Lupton, into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Slim was a homemaker. She was raised in Navajo tradition.

Survivors include her sons, Bennie Goodluck of Fort Defiance, Tim Goodluck of Lupton, Edison Miller of Lupton; daughters, Violet Peterson of Burley, Idaho; sisters, Juanita Steven of Chinle, Alice Smith of Lupton, Elise Benally of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rosita Sage of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Slim was preceded in death by her sisters, Marilyn Slim, Nellie Beepy, Lelda Goodluck; brother, Roger Slim; son, Otto.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Lupton Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

John Wilson

CHICHILTAH — Services for John Albert Wilson, 77, will be 1 p.m., Monday, March 30, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Thomas Sandoval will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Chichiltah.

Wilson died March 26, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Feb. 28, 1932, in Cousins, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Wilson attended Sherman Indian School and worked on the railroad and did carpentry work. He liked to work on his ranch and walk, staying in shape was a must for him. Wilson also liked spending time with his kids and grandchildren.

Survivors include his sons, Albert Wilson of Chichiltah, Samuel Wilson of Chichiltah; daughters, Myra Wilson of Chichiltah, Clara Kehoe of Twin Falls, Idaho; sister, Elouise Francisco of Chichiltah; four grandchildren.

Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Matilda Nez Wilson.

Pallbearers will be Albert Wilson, Gary Wilson, Jimmy Francisco, Marvin Francisco, Ray Francisco, Ivan Skeet.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Chichiltah Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
