Hoskie Dedman

CHINLE — Services for Hoskie Y. Dedman, 80, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 3, at Ganado Presbyterian Church, Ganado. The Rev. Roger Davis will officiate. Burial will be family plot, Chinle. Visitation will be 9 a.m., one hour prior to service.

Dedman died March 29, 2009, in Phoenix. He was born May 5, 1928, in Nazlini, into the Black Streak Forest People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Dedman attended BIA School in Fort Defiance and cook training school for the ministry. He worked for the railroad in Sawmill and did farm work in Colorado. He also did carpentry throughout his life. He helped in law enforcement, education and health care as a interpreter and guide. Dedman served as chapter president, served 15 years on the board of Chinle Valley School. Hobbies included reading books, farming (ranching), horseback riding, watching western movies and sports, story telling, lecturing to youth, helping others, writing journals and drawing.

Survivors include his sons, Calvin Dedman, Glenn Dedman, Dean Dedman Sr., Eugene R. Dedman, Marvin Dedman; daughters, Lydia Toney, Pat Dedman, Bonnie Bedonie, Theresa Chee; sister, Julia Hildreth of Steamboat; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Dedman was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Dedman; brothers, Robert Dedman, Phillip Dedman, Henry Mannie.

Pallbearers will be Dennison Dedman, Raymond Vanwinkle, Justin Chee, Ernest Vanwinkle, Glenn Dedman and Marvin Bedoni.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Dedman family residence, 3.5 miles south of Spider Rock Junction.

Mary Gonzales

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Mary J. Gonzales, 93, will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, April 3, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m., Thursday, April 2, at Compassion Mortuary. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, April 2, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Gonzales died April 1, 2009, in Grants. She was born March 16, 1916, in Albuquerque.

Survivors include her children, Antonio Gonzales of Albuquerque, Santiago Gonzales of Grants, Fred Gonzales of Grants, Alberto Gonzales of Albuquerque, Abelicio of Gonzales of Grants, David Gonzales of Bloomfield, Eduardo Gonzales of Grants, Rosita Salazar of Grants, Dorella Zenz of Grants, Merlinda Olguin of Grants, Flora Mullen of Lanexa, Virginia, Claire Chavez of Albuquerque; brother, Alfredo Apodaca of Grants; sisters, Petra Montano of Grants, Tivi Maldonado of Albuquerque; 45 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

Gonzales was preceded in death by her husband, Santiago Gonzales; parents, Eduardo Apodaca, Picdad Lucero Apodaca; daughter, MaryEllen Brito; son, Michael Gonzales; brothers, Trinidad Apodaca, Damacio Apodaca, Vicenti Apodaca; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Daniel A. Gonzales, Walter Zenz, Anthony Olguin, James Gonzales, Chris Sena, Abie Gonzales Jr., Scott Gonzales and Joseph Brito.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Teresa Catholic School, 400 E. High, Grants, N.M. 87020.

WINDOW ROCK — Services are pending for Lewis Lee Peshlakai, 52.

Peshlakai died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in Fort Defiance. He was born Nov. 5, 1956, in Winslow, into the Towering House People Clan for the Saline Water People Clan.

DONA ANA, N.M. — Funeral Mass for Mae M. Roybal, 62, will be 9 a.m., Saturday, April 4, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Grants. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. The Very. Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. A rosary will be 7 p.m., Friday, April 3,at Compassion Mortuary.

Roybal died March 30, 2009, in Las Cruces. She was born May 2, 1949, in Embudo, N.M.

Roybal was retired from El Paso Electric as a receptionist. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Health Catholic Church were she was a Eucharist Minister.

Survivors include her companion, Frank Gonzales; daughters, Jackie Vigil of Mesilla, N.M., Jenell Stafford of Glen Rose, Texas, Jewell Lucero of Grants, Jeneen Roybal of Las Cruces; brother, Lee Maestas of Grants; stepsons, Raymond Roybal of San Ysidro, N.M., Rick Roybal of Tucson, John Roybal of Tucson, David Hassel of Grand Junction, Colo., Amado Roybal, of Sacramento, Calif., Tony Roybal of Sacramento, Calif., Fred Roybal of Taos; stepdaughters, Gina Rodriguez of Tucson, Rose Roybal of Tucson, Theresa Robinson of Gettysburg, Maryland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Roybal was preceded in death by her husband, John Roybal; parents, John D. Maestas and Corrina Trujillo Maestas; brothers, Juan Maestas, Emerson Maestas, Paul G. Maestas; stepson, Vincent Hassle.

Pallbearers will be P.F.C. Stafford, Justin, Waylon Stafford, Marquise Ramirez, Michelle Stafford, Jadrain Lucero, Jeremy Roybal.
