Buck Jones

MANUELITO — Services are pending for Buck Jones, 78.

Jones died Thursday, April 2, 2009, in Gallup. He was born April 7, 1930, in Manuelito, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

A gathering for family and friends will be 5 p.m., Monday, April 6, at Manuelito Chapter House, Manuelito, N.M.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Oldham

GALLUP — Rosary for Mary Oldham, 92, will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 6, at at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Oldham died April 1, 2009.

Oldham and her sister were recently recognized as the longest living members of the Catholic Croatian Union #59 in Gallup. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters Society and the St. Anthony’s Circle, Gallup.

Survivors include her children, Anthony Oldham of Peoria, Ariz., Sharon Walker of Albuquerque; sister, Luby Grenko of Gallup; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Oldham was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, David; brother, Raymond Kauzlaric.

Lewis Peshlakai

WINDOW ROCK — Funeral services for Lewis Lee Peshlakai, 52, will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 6, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Holbrook. Bob Matthew will officiate. Burial will be in Holbrook.

Peshlakai died March 31, 2009, in Fort Defiance.

He was born Nov. 5, 1956, in Winslow, Ariz., into the Towering House People Clan for the Bittersweet Water People Clan.

Peshlakai was a NAC Roadman. He graduated from Holbrook High School and was honorably discharged from the Marines. He loved to travel to different tribes, to assist with Native American Church. Peshlakai graduated from University of New Mexico with an Associates Degree in Construction Technology.

Survivors include his son, Orlando Lee Peshlakai of Window Rock; daughters, Heather J. Kee of Window Rock, Melissa J. Peshlakai of Mesa, Tasha Peshlakai of Mesa, Chelsea Peshlakai of Window Rock; parents, Charlie Peshlakai, Amie Peshlakai of Indian Wells, Ariz.; brothers, Albert Peshlakai, Cliffton Peshlakai, Clifford Peshlakai; sister, Vergina Peshlakai of Indian Wells; five grandchildren.

Peshlakai was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucy Yazzie; brother, Allen Peshlakai.

Pallbearers will be family members.

The family will receive relatives and friends at American Legion, Holbrook. The family will meet at Our Lady of Guadalupe Hall, Holbrook, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wells Fargo, Heather Kee.

Mamie Vander Wagen Ball

ZUNI — Memorial services for Mamie Lee Mollenberg Vander Wagen Ball, 87, will be 3 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Zuni Christian Reformed Mission, Zuni. Interment will be at a later date.

Lee died Friday, March 20, 2009, in Mesa. She was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Tonganoxie, Kan.

Lee and her husband, Richard, established and owned numerous trading posts. They opened the Pine Haven Trading Post in 1942, followed in 1944 by building the White Water Trading Post. Lee was the first postmistress at the Post Office, thus establishing Vander Wagen, New Mexico. In 1958, they purchased the C.G. Wallace store in Zuni, which they operated under Richard’s Zuni name Hawikuh. After the death of her husband, Norm Ball, Lee moved to Leisure World, Mesa, where she was active in numerous organizations.
Survivors include her son, Michael Vander Wagen; daughter, Sharon Murphy of Vander Wagen; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Lee was preceded in death by her father, Lee Mollenberg; mother, Mamie Wilson; step-father, Frank (Skitter) Keeley; husband, Richard Vander Wagen; husband, Norman Ball; son, Richard Bernard Vander Wagen; two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zuni Christian Mission School - new building fund, PO Box 445, Zuni, N.M. 87327.
