Dorothy Aragon

BLUEWATER — Graveside services for Dorothy J. Aragon, 78, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, Bluewater. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant.

Aragon died April 3, 2009, in Grants. She was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Globe, Ariz.

Survivors include his children, Floyd Aragon of Bluewater, Mariano Pascetti of Thoreau, Louie Aragon of St. Louis, Mo.

Dan Christensen

ALBUQUERQUE — Dan Christensen, loving husband, father and grandfather has passed on Monday, April 6, 2009. Dan was a New Mexico native and Albuquerque resident for 59 years. He was born on July 15, 1913 at Kirtland, NM.

Dan had a long career as an Indian trader owning stores at Pinedale, Mariano Lake and Hunters Point on the Navajo reservation and at Dulce on the Jicarilla Apache reservation. He was very knowledgeable about pinon nuts and operated a large pinon business for over 30 years. Dan made many life long friends among the Navajos and the Apaches. In 1953 he bought Gage's Boots and Saddles and changed the name to Dan's Boots and Saddles which is now in the third generation of family ownership. He enjoyed many years working the family ranch in the Manzano Mountains and enjoyed fishing at Platoro, CO in the summer, fishing at Kino Bay, Mexico in the winter and fishing at Lake Powell in the spring and fall.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Katheryn; daughter, Dorothy Pullen and husband, Jim; sons, Allen and wife, Kay, Jay and wife, Carole, and Steve and wife, Penny; grandchildren, Allen and John Christensen, Sally Stock, Kathy Wild, Terry Trantham, Beverly Duncan, Barbara Harris, Karen Truelock, Larry Christensen, Dan, Kevin, Scott and Eric Christensen, and Lisa Guggino; 37 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mildred Corkum (Corky).

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Olivia Garcia, Mary Corona, Alfred Bhatti, the staffs of Senior Care, Bee Hive Village, Sandia Hospice, Annete Vignona, niece, Donna Christensen and nephew, Dan Decker for their gracious care and thoughtfulness.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.

Andrew Diaz

GALLUP — Funeral services for Andrew Manuel Diaz, 32, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at St. Francis Church. The Rev. Patrick D. Schafer, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallup. A rosary will be recited 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at St. Francis Church.

Diaz died April 5, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Dec. 4, 1976, in Gallup.

Diaz graduated from Gallup High School. He was employed at Comcast as a cable technician. He enjoyed being outdoors, weight lifting, bowling, fishing, spending time with family, friends and his daughter.

Survivors include his daughter, Alysia Diaz of Albuquerque; parents, Andrew Diaz Sr., Lenore Diaz; brothers, Pat “Eric” Gallegos; sisters, Bernadette Diaz-Gallegos, Melanie Diaz.

Diaz was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gilbert Diaz Sr., Marcia Diaz, and Hilda Sanchez.

Pallbearers will be Benny Jaramillo, Dave Johnson, Richard Lopez, Ray Trujillo, Raymond Santiago, and John Ortiz.

The family will receive relatives and friends at KC Hall, 200 Apache Circle, Gallup, following services.

James Finegan

ALBUQUERQUE — Services are pending for James Raymond Finegan, 83.

Finegan died April 6, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 20, 1926, in New York, N.Y.
Finegan was a former resident of Gallup.

Cooper Johnny

FLAGSTAFF — Services for Cooper Ryne Johnny, 3 months old, were 10 a.m., today, Tuesday, April 7, at St. Isabell Catholic Church in Lukachukai. Burial followed.

Johnny died Friday April 3, 2009. He was born January 6, 2009 into the Red Running into the Water-Ute People Clan for the Black Streak Wood People Clan.

Johnny was a happy little boy with bright shining eyes, a crooked smile and lots of dark soft hair.

He touched so many hearts and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his parents, Buffy Shirley, Brian Johnny; grandparents, Rita Lee, Kenneth Shirley, Diana Dechilly, Steven Milford; great-grandparents, Eva and Albert Lee, Chee A. Begay, Sallie Johnny.

Johnny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Alice Begay, Dan Shirley, Vernon Begay, Earl Johnny.

Buck Jones

MANUELITO — Funeral services for Buck Jones, 78, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at Rollie Mortuary. The Very Rev. Lawrence J. O’Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Jones died April 2, 2009, in Gallup. He was born April 7, 1930, in Manuelito, into the Black Streak Forest People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Jones enjoyed horseback riding tremendously and was an avid rodeo-fan, who also participated in severe bull riding competitions, such as those in Window Rock and Indian Ceremonials. He was a rancher, carpenter and silversmith. He worked on the railroad during his early years. Additionally, he appeared in a few western movies like: Cliff Dwellers, Hallelujah Tales and Ace in the Hole.

Jones was a firm believer in tradional Navajo beliefs and rituals and often danced in Yeibachei ceremonies. He never underwent formal schooling, but was mostly self-taught.

Survivors include his sons, Gilbert Jones of Gallup, Herman Jones of Mexican Springs, Raymond Jones of Gallup; daughters, Marlene Jones of Gallup, Roselyn Laner of Manuelito; brother, Sammy Yazzie of Sanders; sister, Ann Lee of Wide Ruins; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Jones was preceded in death by his daughter, Elvera Jones; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Yazzie; sister, Nellie Parker; brother, Ned Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Gilbert Jones, Herman Jones, Raymond Jones, Danny Kee, John Dubois Jr., and Perry Chee.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Manuelito Chapter House, following services.

Edward King

TOHLAKAI — Services are pending for Edward King, 84.

King died Sunday, April 5, 2009, in Tohlakai. He was born May 15, 1924, in Cove, Ariz., into the Mountain Cove People Clan for the Irish People Clan.

A gathering will be 5 p.m., tonight, April 7, at Twin Lakes Chapter House, Twin Lakes.

Richard Smith III

MARIANO LAKE — Services for Richard Smith III, 29, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Steven Nez will officiate. Burial will be in Smith Lake Cemetery, Smith Lake.

Smith died April 3, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Nov. 29, 1979, in Gallup, into the Towering House People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Smith attended St. Michaels Association for special education.

Survivors include his father, Richard Smith Jr. of Mariano Lake; sisters, Joyce S. Casamero of Mariano Lake; grandmother, Grace Warner of Mariano Lake.

Smith was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Warner; grandfather, Raymond Warner Sr.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Warner, Jonathan Warner, Rafael Campos Jr., Carols Barraza, Renando Warner and Dewayne Casamero.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Mariano Lake Chapter House, following services.
