Walter Atene

OLJATO, Utah — Graveside services for Walter Atene, 62, will be 11 a.m., Thursday, April 16, at the family cemetery, Oljato,Utah.

Atene died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Phoenix. He was born Nov. 2, 1946, in Navajo Mountain, Utah.

Desert View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Belliveau

GALLUP — Services are pending for Betty J. Parker Belluveau, 81.

Belliveau died April 13, 2009, in Gallup. She was born May 21, 1927, in Gibson.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Johns

WINDOW ROCK — Funeral services for Donald Murphy Johns, 70, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, April 16, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Gilbert Schneider, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery.

Johns died April 11, 2009, in Gallup. He was born June 20, 1938, in St. Michaels into the Mexican People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Johns attended Indian Mountain School. He worked with the Navajo Nation, Chief Yellowhorses Trading Post, Fed-Mart, Gallup McKinley County Schools, Sentinel Janitorial, and Kerr McGee Corp. He was involved with ranching and enjoyed being outdoors, going to rodeos and being around his livestock.

Survivors include his sons, Wallace John of St. Michaels, Walter John of Blue Gap, Wesley John of St. Michaels, Delfino M. Johns of Sundance; daughters, Rosemary Tom of Phoenix, Rosalin John of Oregon; sisters, Esther Wilson of Kinlicheenee, Mildred M. Begay of St. Michaels, Florence M. Gale of Window Rock, Ella Rose Perry of Window Rock, Margaret M. Kee of St. Michaels; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Johns was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Johns; mother, Zonnie Murphy; brothers, Jett Chee, Henry Wallace, Toby Wallace, Kee Wallace, Austin Wallace; one great-granddaugher.

Pallbearers will be Delfino M. Johns, Antonio Barney, Michael Travis Legieh, Wesley Johns, George McKegg Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Chapter, St. Michaels, following services.

Richard Long Sr.

ROCK SPRINGS — Services are pending for Richard Long Sr., 62.

Long died April 13, 2009, in Rock Springs. He was born April 15, 1946, in Fort Defiance.

A gathering will be 5 p.m., tonight, April 15, at Rock Springs Chapter.

Charles Mitchell Jr.

DEL MUERTO — Services are pending for Charles Lovato Mitchell Jr., 48.

Mitchell died Monday, April 13, 2009, in Del Muerto. He was born April 21, 1960, in Ganado, into the Bitter Water people Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

A family gathering will be April 15-16, at NHA Conference room, Chinle.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Camille Quest

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — Private services for Camille Jane Quest, 61, will be in Michigan.
Quest died April 14, 2009, in Hudsonville, Mich. She was born June 13, 1947.

Quest died after a battle with glioblastoma multiforme. She worked for several years on the Navajo Reservation, serving as a pediatric nurse at Shiprock Hospital, and as a Public Health Nurse at Fort Defiance and later worked with disabled children in the Shiprock area. Quest was also a school nurse in Gallup, and worked as a mental health nurse for RMCH.

Survivors include her husband, John Quest; daughter, Margaret Quest of New Carlisle, Indiana; sons, Eric and Matthew Bazan; parents; two sisters; two brothers.

James Strain

ADRIAN, Mo. — Graveside services for James Strain, will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Terrace Grove Cemetery, Belen. Memorial services will be 5:30 p.m., Sunday, April 19, at the Church of Christ, Butler, Mo., 205 North Fulton.

Strain died April 10, 2009. He was born Sept. 10, 1927.

Strain served people of Adrian, Mo. with his real estate office, Strain Realty, until the time of his death, and enjoyed his locksmith business. He was very outgoing and loved people. He served our country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Strain was a member of the Church of Christ in Butler, Mo., and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gallup and Belen.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Strain of Adrian, Mo.; sons, Dennis Strain of Belen, Kevin Strain of Belen, Kelly Strain of Austin, Texas; daughter, Marian Chappell of Saint Jo, Texas; brother, Louis Strain of Shreveport, LA.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Strain was preceded in death by his wife, Winona R. Strain; parents, Grady Strain, Mae Strain; brother, William Strain.

Theresa Todachine

GALLUP — Tradition Wake for Theresa Todachine, 84, will be 9 p.m., tonight, April 15, at the home of Hennie Ann Laate, 08D Malani St., Zuni.

Todachine died April 14, 2009, in Gallup. She was born May 21, 1924, in Zuni.

Todachine attended Fort Wingate High School. She was employed with Gallup Indian Traders for many years and retired from there. Her hobbies include doing jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles.

Survivors include her sons, Jonathan Todachine Sr. of Gallup, Ronald Todachine of Albuquerque; daughters, Pat Destea of Phoenix, Cynthia Todachine of Window Rock, Hazel Burbank of Gallup, Marilyn Becenti of Albuquerque; brother, Jerry Charley of Gallup; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

Todachine was preceded in death by her father, Charley Cucupa; daughters, Verna, Trudy; sons, Tim Todachine Sr., Taylor Todachine Jr., Steven Allen Todachine.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Todachine Jr., Tim Todachine Jr., Jeremy Todachine, Aaron Todachine, Brian Burbank, Jonathan Todachine III.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Hennie Laate, 08D Malani St., Zuni, following services.

The family will meet at 9 a.m., April 19.

John Tom Jr.

MARIANO LAKE — Funeral services for John Tom Jr., 60, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, April 16, at Mariano Lake Community Church. Jones Dehiya will officiate. Burial will be in Smith Lake Community Cemetery.

Tom died April 11, 2009, in Crownpoint. He was born Aug. 11, 1948, in Mariano Lake, into the Deer Spring/Bitter Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Tom attended Chemawa Indian School in 1960-1967. He did farm work in Colorado and tended cattle and sheep in Pueblo of Laguna.

Survivors include his daughter, Shirlene Jones of Twin Lakes; brothers, Jimmie K. Tom of Zuni, Frankie J. Tom of Monument Valley, Utah, Charley Tom Sr. of Borrego Pass; two grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John Tom Sr., Jennie B. Tom; brothers, Sam Jim Tom, Robin B. Tom; sisters, Mae R. Tom, Betty Tom, Bessie R. Tom, Marie Tom.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Tom Jr., Franklin Tom, Myles Tom, Alvin Yazzie, Albert Chapo, Lamour Bennett.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
