Clifford Cooper

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Clifford M. Cooper, 82, will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 20, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Sunday, April 19, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Cooper died April 16, 2009, in Grants. He was born July 21, 1926, in Lees Summit, Mo.

Cooper was a veteran of the US Navy serving in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Pacita Valdez Cooper of Grants; children, Ron Cooper Sr. of Cozad, Neb., Reno Cooper of Cozad, Christian Cooper-Halverson; brother, William Cooper of Lacross, Kan.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Marshall Cooper, Emma Mae Cooper; brother, Tom Cooper.

Pallbearers will be Ron Cooper Sr., Reno Cooper, Larry Grider, Jeffery Matilla, MD., Freddie Bringuis, William Cooper.

Mae Harvey

WHIPPOORWHILL, Ariz. — Graveside services for Mae Tsosie Harvey, 63, will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, at family land, Whippoorwill.

The Rev. Joe Tsosie will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Whippoorwill.

Harvey died April 16, 2009, in Winslow. She was born Feb. 9, 1946, in Pinon, Ariz., into the Salt People Clan for the Rock Gap People Clan.

Harvey graduated from Shamoah, Ore. She was a Navajo rug weaver, seamstress, homemaker, like to read books to grandchildren, was a philosipher in traditional culture, and did bead work.

Survivors include her sons, Raytin T. Harvey, Ronald Harvey, Sullivan Harvey; daughters, Loretta Begay, Maureen Holiday, Kathy Harvey, Caroline Harvey; brother, Wilson Harvey; sisters, Annsie Bahe, Ella Denetso, Eva Harvey, Hilda Harvey, Rebena Paul, Dorothy Yazzie; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Harvey was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Harvey; parents, Annie Harvey, Frank Tsosie.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Harvey, Raytin Harvey, Eric Teller, Tico Teller, Terry Bahe, Emilo G. Harvey.

The family will receive relatives and friends 6 p.m., April 18-21.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ann Shirley

DEER SPRINGS — Services for Ann Shirley, 94, will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 20, at St. Michaels Mission. The Rev. Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Deer Springs. Visitation will be 9 a.m., one hour prior to services, at St. Michaels Mission. A rosary will be recited 5:30 p.m., Sunday, April 19, at St. Michael Mission.

Shirley died April 16, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Deer Springs, into the Honey Comb People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Shirley went to school up to the 11th grade. She worked as a Home living assistant for over 30 years and retired in 1989 from Wide Ruins Boarding School. Shirley was a rug weaver, girl scout leader, who went camping with the scouts.

She loved being with her family and friends and loved her sheep.

Survivors include her son, Norman Wauneka of Gallup; brother, Bernard Shirley of Dallas, Texas; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by Ned Begay, Mary Begay Shirley; sister, Annie Dodge Wauneka; brothers, Sam Shirley, Johnny Shirley, Phillip Shirley, Harry Shirley, Walter Shirley.

Pallbearers will be Edmund Cohoe Jr., Edwin Cohoe, Ernest Shirley, Doug Lowery, John Gorman, Edison Shirley.

The family received relatives and friends at Sawmill Catholic Church Hall, 6 p.m., Friday, April 17.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Jay Woodward

AZTEC — Jay E. Wooward, 86, died April 14, 2009. He was born July 14, 1922, in Rawis, Texas.

Woodward was a dedicated Christian and love his family dearly. In his younger years he served in the US Navy as a Seabee during WWII in Normandy and in the Phillipins and also served his community as a New Mexico State Policeman and as Chief of Police in Grants. Later he and his wife were dry land farmers and he worked in security for Kerr McGee and Gulf Oil. Woodward spent time hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his children, Melvin, Ted, Larry Woodard; daughter, Janice Mata; sister, Geneva Banks; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

Woodard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; numerous brothers and sisters.
