Melvin Gonzales

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Melvin L. “Melon” Gonzales, 51, will be 9 a.m., Thursday, April 23, at St. Teresa Catholic Church. The Rev. Alberto Avella will officiate. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, at St. Teresa Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Thursday, April 22, at St. Teresa Catholic Church.

Gonzales died April 18, 2009, in Grants. He was born April 24, 1957, in Grants.

Survivors include his parents, Joe P. and Emma Gonzales; sister, Lucy Torrez; brothers, Eloy Sanchez, John Gonzales, Ted Gonzales, Rudy Gonzales, Bernie Gonzales.

Gonzales was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Joe Gonzales, Ralph Gonzales.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Gonzales, Danny Torrez, Steven Gonzales, Raymond Gonzales, Gomer Chavez, Joe Estrada.

MacArthur Halona

SPRINGVILLE, Utah — Funeral services for MacArthur Douglas Halona, 57, will be 11 a.m., April 22, at Springville Fifth Ward, 245 S. 600 E. Viewing will be 6-8 p.m., tonight, April 21, at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. Springville and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Springville Evergreen Cemetery.

Halona died Sunday, April 19, 2009, in Springville. He was born April 21, 1951, in Gallup.

Halona spent his childhood years on the Navajo reservation in Tohatchi. At the age of 8, he came to live in Springville through the Indian placement program, graduating from Springville High School in 1969. He attended BYU where he performed with the Lamanite Generation and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 1985. Halona loved fishing, hunting, yard work, wood cutting, camping, the BYU Cougars, and the Utah Jazz. He was a talented artist and enjoyed studying Church History. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Sue Penderfraft; children, Leigh Vornkahl, M. Shane Halona, Jeremy Halona, Michael Halona, Utahna Erickson, Desiree’ Raulston, Andrea “Gia” Carter, Melody Baldwin Halona; parents, Wallace E. and Betty J. Halona; nine grandchildren.

CHINLE — Services are pending for Phyllis Naize James, 72.

James died Sunday, April 19, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec.11, 1936, in Chinle, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Honey Combed Rock People Clan.

GALLUP — Services are pending for Francisco Garcia Jauregui, 83.

Jauregui died Saturday, April 18, 2009,in Gallup. He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in El Paso, Texas.

Natividad Juarez

GALLUP — Funeral Mass for Natividad L. Juarez, 88, will be 9:30 a.m., April 22, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Gallup. The Very Rev. Lawrence J. O’Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallup. A rosary will be recited at St. Francis Church, prior to funeral mass.

Juarez died April 18, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Houck.

Juarez was a member of Scared Heart Cathedral Church. She loved being with family and friends, music, dancing, and her pet Sugar.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Juarez, Pete Juarez, both of Gallup; daughters, Mary Torres of Gallup, Geraldine R. Kline of Gilbert; brother, John Lopez of Gallup; sisters, Sally Burrola of Gallup, Toni Casper of Gallup, Delphy Ramirez; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Juarez was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Flora Lopez; husband, Pedro A. Juarez; son, Raymond M. Juarez.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Torrez, Victor J. Kline, Bryant K. Romero, Daniel Juarez, Carlos Juarez, Alfred Olivar, Gilbert Torrez, George W. Romero, Jeremy Campos.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral Church.

Lena Lee

CHICAGO, Ill. — Funeral services for Lena L. Lee, 65, will be 10 a.m., April 22, at St. Michaels Catholic Mission. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Coal Mine, N.M. Visitation will be 9 a.m., one hour prior to services.

Lee died April 16, 2009, in Chicago. She was born May 28, 1943, in Cornfields, into the Big Water People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Lee attended school at Cornfields Day School, St. Michaels Indian School, Window Rock High School. Her hobbies included cooking, horseback riding, jewelry work, traveling, and singing. She loved music.

Survivors include her husband, David Lee; sisters, Mary Helen Roanhorse of Navajo Station, Annabelle Roanhorse of Navajo Station.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, John Woodty, Tahnezbah Smiley.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Parrish Hall, St. Michaels, following services.

Abel Mescal

BECENTI — Funeral services for Abel Mescal, 26, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, at Crownpoint Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Keith will officiate. Burial will be in Crownpoint Cemetery, Crownpoint.

Mescal died April 16, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Feb. 22, 1983, in Crownpoint, into the Tangle People Clan for the Ute People Clan.

Survivors include his mother, Isabelle Betone of Becenti; brother, Harrison Mescal Jr. of Becenti; sister, Maria Mescal of Phoenix.

Mescal was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison Mescal Sr., Brenda Mescal.

Pallbearers will be Robert Perry Jr., Jason Betone, Adrian Mescal, Ernie Hudson, Dallia Mastro, Brandon Becenti.

Beatrice Myers

MANUELITO — Services are pending for Beatrice Mary Myers, 54.

Myers died April 19, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Sept. 28, 1954, in Fort Defiance.

A family gathering will be today, April 21, at Manuelito Chapter.

PINEDALE — Services are pending for Geraldine Morgan Yan, 49.

Yan died Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Pinedale. She was born Dec. 29, 1959, in Gallup, into the Two Come to the Water People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.
