Phyllis James

Chinle — Funeral services for Phyllis Naize James, 72, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 24, at Grace Fellowship Community Church. Joe J. Begay will officiate. Burial will be in Chinle Community Cemetery.

James died April 19, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Chinle, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Honey Comb Cliff Dwellers People Clan.

James attended Intermountain Indian School- five year program completion. She was a social service employee as a social service aid, a rug weaver, and homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Sonny James; daughters, Marilyn James, Carolyn James, Shirlee James-Johnson, Debra Beno, Linda James; brothers, Johnny Naize, David Naize, Jimmy Naize, Reid Naize Jr.; sisters, Virginia Gorman, Sarah Naize, Arlena Naize, Rita Ortiz, Nancy Nez; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

James was preceded in death by her husband, William James; son, Robert J. James; sister, Lorraine A. Naize; father, Reid Naize Sr.; brother, Joe Naize Sr.

Pallbearers will be Sonny D. James, Dexter D. Brown, Allson “Oly” Beno, Danley Bitsoi, Hansen Bitsoi, Jimmy Naize.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Grace Fellowship Community Church, following services.

Steven Landavazo

ZUNI — Tradition wake for Steven Carlos Landavazo, 38, will be 9 p.m., tonight, April 23, at 1308 A. Hwy. 53, Zuni. Burial will be Quincy Panteach Cemetery, Zumi. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., April 23, at Rollie Mortuary. A rosary will be recited 6-8 p.m., tonight, April 23, at Rollie Mortuary.

Landavazo died April 21, 2009, in Zuni. He was born Feb. 10, 1971, in Gallup, into the Eagle People Clan.

Landavazo graduated High School in Zuni, in 1989. He joined the U.S. Navy in Sept. 1989, participated in Desert Storm while on the U.S.S Independence. He graduated from UTI with and Associates Degree in Auto and Diesel Technology. Music was his passion.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Watson; sons, Collin Martinez, David Landavazo, Carlos Landavazo; daughter, Maria Landavazo; mother, Veona Landavazo; sisters, Val DeBois, Gloria Landavazo.

Landavazo was preceded in death by his father, Gene Landavazo; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gullermo Landavazo, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Quam.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth McCombs

CHINLE — Funeral services for Ruth Ann McCombs, 58, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 24, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Stake Center (north of Chinle IHS turn off). Private burial will be will be at Mr. John Brown Jr.’s residence in Crystal.

McCombs died April 18, 2009, in Phoenix. She was born Sept. 10, 1950, in Rehoboth, into the Tangle People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.

McCombs graduated from Provo High School in 1969, attended ASU and earned Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University in 1974, majoring in Early Childhood Development and Sociology. She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church since the age of 8 and was active in the church, holding many callings throughout her life. McCombs was a founding members of the “Lamanite Generation” (a BYU performing group) and traveled through out the country and internationally.

Survivors include her husband, Edward W. McCombs; son, Scott Preston McCombs; daughters, Sommer Nani Hovey, Crystal Tewa Begay; parents, John Brown Jr., Loncie Brown of Crystal; five grandchildren.

McCombs was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Russell McCombs.

A post burial reception will be at Crystal Chapter House, following burial.

Rose Mexicano

PREWITT — Funeral services for Rose Jean Mexicano, 68, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 24, at Gospel Lighthouse, Haystack. Sarah H. Begay will officiate. Burial will be in Thoreau Cemetery, Thoreau.

Mexicano died April 19, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Sept. 12, 1940, in Prewitt, into the Sleepy Rock People Clan for the Two Who Came into the Water People Clan.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Mexicano of Prewitt; daughters, Linda Begay, Rhoda Peralto, Ralda Mexicano, all of Prewitt; sister, Lucy Arviso of Prewitt; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Mexicano was preceded in death by Brian Begay, Obie Begay, Aaron Peralto, Jimmy Arviso, Troyman Arviso, Irvin Lewis Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Baca Chapter, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Myers

MANUELITO — Funeral services for Beatrice Mary Myers, 54, will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 24, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in City Cemetery, Gallup.

Myers died April 19, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Sept. 28, 1954, in Fort Defiance, into the Black Sheep People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Myers attended Aileen Roat Elementary, Crystal Boarding School, Gallup Jr. High, Inter Mountain School, and Truck Driving School in Colorado Springs and obtained her CDL. She obtained her GED in 1983. Myers worked as a housekeeper for hotels, volunteered as an Aid for the Manuelito Pre-School. She was a register voter for Manuelito Chapter. She loved watching movies as a hobby.

Survivors include her sons, Eric B. Myers of Phoenix, Sheldon E. Myers of Phoenix; brothers, Earl Anderson of Phoenix, Davis Myers of Heyburn, Idaho; sisters, Emily Custer of Manuelito, Elizabeth Anderson of Manuelito, Ella Mae Anderson of Phoenix, Florence Wagoner of Phoenix, Matilda Lee of Phoenix.

Myers was preceded in death by her father, Billy Myers; mother, Grace Keyonni Myers; brother, Wilbert B. Anderson; grandparents, Grant Myers, Josephine Begay-Myers.

Pallbearers will be Cody Custer, Ira Custer, Shane Custer, Jeremiah Myers, Jason Bahe, Blos Vega.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Southwest Indian Ministries, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine Yan

GALLUP — Funeral services for Geraldine Morgan Yan, 49, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 25, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. The Rev. Robert Arviso will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Yan died April 18, 2009, in Pinedale. She was born Dec. 29, 1959, in Gallup, into the Two Came to the Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Yan graduated from California. She worked with various companies in Gallup and Antioch, Calif. Yan enjoyed cooking and making new friends.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Yan; daughter, TaShina Yan; parents, Harry and Nellie Morgan of Pinedale; brothers, Harold Morgan, Gerald Morgan, Edward Morgan, all of Pinedale; sisters, Theresa Taha of Pinedale, Phoebe Morgan of Antioch, Calif., Adaline Morgan of Pinedale.

Yan was preceded in death by her grandparents, David and Alice Mason.

Pallbearers will be Harold Morgan, Gerald Morgan, Edward Morgan, Kenneth Yan, Duane Medicine-Eagle, Paul Yan.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Pinedale Chapter House, following services.
