Frank Brown

BAAHAALI — Funeral services for Frank W. Brown, 89, will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 1, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jay McCollin will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.

Brown died April 27, 2009, in Baahaali. He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Gallup, into the Black Streaked Forest People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Brown attended Fort Wingate Vocational School. He worked for construction as a labor most of his life. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945. Brown enjoyed ranching, tending sheep, saddle bronc riding, farming and stack contracting.

Survivors include his sons, Edison Brown of Breadsprings, Harrison Brown of Breadsprings, Emerson Brown of Breadsprings, Anson Brown of Los Lunas, Franklin Brown of Breadsprings; daughters, Ann L. Clani of Breadsprings, Fanny Reeves of Breadsprings; brother, James Brown of Sundance; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hugh Brown, Wes Brown, Edwin Brown, Gabe Reeves, Ryan Brown and Al Clani.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Baahaali Chapter at 2 p.m., following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Dedman Sr.

NAZLINI — Services for Joseph Dedman Sr., 78, will be 10 a.m., May 1, at Catholic Church, St. Michaels. Burial will be in family plot, Nazlini.
Dedman died April 28, 2009, in Fort Defiance. He was born April 27, 1931, in Nazlini.

Dedman attended St. Michaels Mission School.

He worked at and retired from Nazlini BIA School after 27 years. Dedman also served on the Nazlini School Board.

Survivors include his wife, Louise H. Dedman of Nazlini; sons, Joseph Dedman Jr. of Fort Defiance, Bennis J. Dedman of Wiindow Rock; daughters, Josephine Yazzie of Window Rock, Marlene toya of Phoenix, Rita A. Dedman of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Dedman was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Dedman; brothers, Billy Dedman, Hoskie Ray Dedman, Francis Dedman Sr., Miller Dedman Sr., Jimmie Dedman; sisters, Lillie Tracey, Mary Dodge, Pearl Augustine, Molly James.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Dedman, Derrick Crow, Joseph Dedman III, Jay R. Dedman, Francis Dedman Jr. and Daniel Reed.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Dedman’s residence, Nazlini, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Victor Duran Jr.

GALLUP — Services for Victor James Duran Jr., 47, will be 8 a.m., May 2, 2009, at St. John Vianneys Parish, Gallup. Private Disposition will be in Phoenix. A rosary will be recited 8 a.m., at St. John Vianney.

Duran died March 19, 2009, in Phoenix. He was born Oct. 26, 1962, in Gallup.

Duran graduated from mechanic school and enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Salazar of Phoenix; sons, Dominic Duran, Brian Duran, both of Phoenix; daughter, Amanda Duran of Phoenix; parents, Victor Duran Sr. of Los Lunas, Virginia Perez of Gallup; brothers, Carlos Duran of Albuquerque, Ralph Duran of Las Cruses; sisters, Celina Duran of Gallup, Marrissia Duran of Las Cruses; four grandchildren.

Duran was preceded in death by Carlos and Maggie Duran, Ralph and Jennie Perez.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. John Vianney Hall, following services.

Tom James

ALBUQUERQUE — Funeral services for Tom James, 77, will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 1, at Rollie Mortuary. The Rev. David DuBoise will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Jones Ranch.

James died April 26, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Jones Ranch, into the Over Hanging Rock People Clan for the Red Running Into Water People Clan.

James was a farmer, rancher and worked for the railroad.

Survivors include his nephews, Harry L. Henderson of Dallas, Texas, Arthur L. Henderson of Yahtahey, Wilfred James, Gilbert James, both of Jones Ranch; nieces, Elsie R. Yazzie of Jones Ranch, Virginia H. Francisco of Jones Ranch, Betty James of Scottsdale; auntie, Mary James DuBoise; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy James, Kee Deswood; sister, Rose James; parents.

Pallbearers will be Carlos Duran, Freddie Frank, Michael Yazzie Jr., Orlando Henderson, Andrew DuBoise, and Larrison Henderson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Chichiltah Chapter House, Jones Ranch, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Shorty Jr.

GARDENA, Calif. — Services for Joseph James Shorty Jr. “Neener”, 41, were 10 a.m., today, April 30, at the All Saints Mission, Ganado. Brother Paul O’Brien officiated. Burial was in community cemetery, Cornfields.

Shorty died April 20, 2009, in Gardena, Calif. He was born Dec. 10, 1967, in Gardena, into the Edge Water People Clan for the Honeycombed People Clan.

Shorty attended Fort Wingate High School and graduated in 1986. He worked at Space Lok Inc., in California as a Quality Control Inspector. He enjoyed being around family and friends, and with livestock, working on electronics gadgets, watching sports and most of all, his job.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Shorty; sons, Justin “Jay” Shorty, Jeremy Shorty; brothers, Glenn Shorty, Jeffery Shorty.

Shorty was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Shorty Sr.; mother, Loretta Shorty; grandparents, Moan “Moon” Shorty, Mary Shorty.

Pallbearers were Lester Brown, Adrian Tabaha, Larue Bahe, Andrew Tabaha, Irvin Shorty and Paul Shorty.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Cornfields Chapter House, following services.
