George Yazzie

MANY FARMS — Services for George Yazzie, 95, were 10 a.m., today, May 4, at Our Lady of Fatima Convent, Chinle. Burial was in Chinle Community Cemetery.

Yazzie died April 30, 2009, in Chinle. He was born July 15, 1914, in Chinle, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Water’s Edge People Clan. Yazzie retired from NFPI and was a rancher for 38 years after retirement. He participated in traditional ceremonies and loved to play cards and be with family.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; daughter, Lynn; brothers, Herbert, Dan; sister, Mary; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Yazzie was preceded in death by Peter, Zonnie; sister, Zonnie; brother, Tullie.

The family received relatives and friends at Chinle Catholic Hall, following services.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
