Elija Begay

CHINLE — Funeral services for Elija Begay, 26, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Grace Fellowship Community Church. Burial will be in Tapaha Nez Begay Family Cemetery.

Begay died May 7, 2009, in Flagstaff. He was born May 22, 1982, in Ganado.

Survivors include his daughter, Kyra Begay; father, Luther Begay of Flagstaff; sister, Rhia Begay of Flagstaff; grandparents, Grant and Louise Benally of Chinle.

Begay was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen Bedonie; grandparents, Tapaha Nez, Myrtle Begay.

Pallbearers will be Jon Martin Mitchell Jr., Joseph W. Begay, Erice Begay, Josiah Begay, Ryan Martinez.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Grace Fellowship Community Church, following services.

Kwen-Lynn Brandow

MESA — Services for Kwen-Lynn “Nani” Kaleo’onalani Kamae Brandow, 63, will be 10 a.m.-12 p.m., May 16, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Arizona Skyline Stake Center.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., May 15, at Mariposa Gardens, Mesa.

Brandow died May 3, 2009, in Phoenix. She was born March 25, 1946, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Brandow comes from a long line of Native Hawaiian entertainers. She was a proud descendent of the first Mormon Native Hawaiian prioneers who founded and settled the Polynesian community of Iosepa, Utah. Her talents as a dancer, performer, and singer provided her opportunities to tour throughout nationally and internationally. She was also part of the first dance troupe to establish the Polyesian Cultural Center in La’ie, HI. Brandow worked as a school administrator for the Native American Perparatory School in Rowe, N.M.

Survivors include her husband, Craig Brandow; sons, Keawe Brandow, Teariki Brandow, Bobby Brandow; daughters, Sunny Brandow, Sanya Lawrence, Heidi Brandow, Fredricka Brandow; 22 grandchildren.

Brandow was preceded in death by her parents, Maraea Lua Kamae, Henry Kamae Sr.; brother, Keawe Kamae Sr.; sister, Kay-Vola Kamae Shannon.

Philamena Grebb

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Philamena Grebb, 37, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Rob Byker will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m., at Rollie Mortuary. Grebb died May 8, 2009, in Flagstaff. She was born Aug. 1, 1971, in Gallup, into the Charcoal Streaked Division of the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Grebb attended school at Wingate and Tohatchi High School. She liked to do cross stitching, writing, baking, reading scriptures, traveling to various places, listening to music, being with family and friends and most of all she collected anything to do with dolphins.

Survivors include his sons, Phillip Grebb of Mexican Springs, Jacob Etsitty, Niles Wauneka, both of Flagstaff; daughters, Martina Etsitty, Marcella Etsitty, both of Flagstaff; mother, Julia Tos Grebb of Coyote Canyon; brothers, William Grebb of Gamerco, Byron Grebb of Gamerco; sisters, Glenna Grebb of Coyote Canyon, Brenda Grebb of Flagstaff; grandmother, Faye Willie of Blackfalls, Ariz.

Grebb was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Cody Grebb; brother, Eldon Tso Grebb; grandparents, Tom Tso Sr., Nellie Tso.

Pallbearers will be Byron Grebb, William Grebb, Ernest Yoe, Warren Todechine, Dorian James, Derrick James.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church, Rehoboth, following services.

Arnold Nelson

CROSS CANYON, Ariz. — Funeral services for Arnold Nelson, 51, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. The Rev. Harry Begay will officiate. Burial will be in Kinlichee Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 p.m., tonight, May 12.

Nelson died Sunday, May 10, 2009, in Gallup. He was born July 15, 1957, in Ganado, into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Nelson was a very special person who enjoyed painting, attending rodeos, watching wrestling on T.V. and being with friends and relatives.

Survivors include his father, Wilbur R. Nelson Sr.; brothers, Wilbur R. Nelson Jr., Lopez Gibson, Manuelito Nelson, Preston Nelson, Alfred Nelson, Floyd Nelson, Winfored Nelson; sisters, Lillian R. Nez, Angeline Francisco, Sylvia Thomas, Marjorie Thompson, Virginia Standing-Elk.

Nelson was preceded in death by his mother, Annie McCabe; brothers, Wayne Nelson, Gilbert Nelson; sister, Ruth Ann Smiley.

Pallbearers will be Alred Nelson, Mark Thompson, Christopher Francisco, Wilbur Nelson Jr., Lyndon B. Standing-Elk, Winfred Nelson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Kinlichee Chapter House, following services.

Janice Morgan

MEXICAN SPRINGS — Funeral services for Janice B. Morgan, 67, will be 10 a.m., May 13, at Tohatchi Catholic Church. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery, Mexican Springs. A rosary will be recited at Tohatchi Catholic Church.

Morgan died May 8, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec. 7, 1941, in Fort Defiance, into the Black Sheep People Clan for the Black Streak Forest People Clan.

Morgan was a rancher and homemaker. She owned and raised livestock.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Morgan of Mexican Springs; son, Edison Morgan of Mexican Springs; daugther, Tonia Morgan of Albuquerque; brothers, Thomas Barney of Window Rock, Ben Barney of Mexican Springs, Alfred Barney of Navajo, Robert Kinsel of Mexican Springs; sisters, Evelyn Alexius of Gallup, Elizabeth Muskett of Navajo, Daisy Barney of Mexican Springs, Eunice Barney of Mexican Springs.

Morgan was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Mary L. Barney; brother, Luther Barney; sister, Jane Barney.

Pallbearer will be Edison Morgan, Loren Barney, Robert Kinsel, Alfred Barney, Daniel Morgan, Al-Garrettson Nez.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Mexican Springs Chapter House, following services.

ZUNI — Services are pending for Eugene A. Poblano, 61.

Poblano died Saturday, May 9, 2009, in Albuquerque. Born May 14, 1947, in Zuni.

Harry Yazzie

SMITH LAKE — Funeral services are pending for Harry Yazzie, 96.

Yazzie died May 10, 2009, in Albuquerque. He wa born Nov.7, 1912, in Thoreau.
