GRANTS — Services are pending for Salvador Joseph Benavidez, 13.
Benavidez died May 13, 2009, in Grants. He was born Aug. 9, 1995, in Grants.
Benavidez was a 7th grader at Los Alamitos Middle School at the time of his death.

Wilson Chavez Sr.
SMITH LAKE — Services for Wilson Chavez Sr, 64, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Trinity Navajo Church, Smith Lake. Bob George will officiate. Burial will be in Smith Lake Cemetery.
Chavez died May 10, 2009, in Smith Lake. He was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Crownpoint, into the Mud People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.
Chavez attended Inter Mountain, Utah, and Sheriden, Ore. He was a silversmith and worked with the rail road and Navajo Out Reach Home Care.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Chavez of Smith Lake; son, Wilson Chavez Sr. of Smith Lake; daughters, Wilda Henio of Smith Lake, Valicita F. Chavez of Cuba, Verna Largo of Prewitt; brothers, Herbert Chavez of Colorado, Leroy Chavez of Colorado, Robinson Art Chavez of Zuni; sisters, Ester Willeto of Hyrum, Utah, Marilyn Chavez of Ojoencino; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Chavez was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn Chavez, Alice Chavez; sister, Chirtian S. Barbone; brother, Raymond Sandoval.
Pallbearers will be Ben Henio, Melbert Chavez, Ralph Morgan, Calvin Saunders, Gerald Harrison, Tyren Willeto.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Smith Lake Chapter House, following services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Matthew Diaz
GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Matthew Diaz, 18, Grants were 10 a.m., today, May 15, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial followed at the Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella was the celebrant. A rosary was 7 p.m., Thursday, May 14, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Deacon Larry Chavez officiated.
Diaz died May 10, 2009, in Prewitt. He was born on September 28, 1990 in Albuquerque.
He was a Senior at Grants High School at the time of his death.
Survivors include his parents, Edward Diaz and Laura Marquez Diaz of Grants; brother, Michael Diaz of Albuquerque; sister, Michelle Martinez of Grants; grandmothers, Erlinda Marquez of Albuquerque, Adeliana Diaz of Cubero.
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers: Gabriel Marquez and Antonio Diaz.
