Cody Autrey

GALLUP — Services for Cody Leon Autrey, 35, were 11 a.m., today, May 18, at Harris Hanlon Mortuary, Mountainair. Gary Lee Watts officiated.
Autrey died May 13, 2009. He was born Sept. 26, 1973, in Albuquerque.

Autrey grew up in Bloomfield and Mountainair. He graduated second in his class of 1993. He excelled in baseball, making many a bat ‘sing’. Autrey, along with him brothers, thrilled the fooball spectators with their cunning maneuvers. He made a living as a diesel technician.

Survivors include his wife, Renee Autrey; son, Cody Jr. Autrey; daughter, Calista Autrey of Gallup; mother, Renette Autrey of Willard; brothers, Clint of Albuquerque, Gary don Jr. of Bloomfield.

Autrey was preceded in death by his father, Gary Don Autrey.

Salvador Benavidez

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Salvador Joseph Benavidez, 13, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m., today, May 18, at Compassion Mortuary. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, May 18, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Benavidez died May 13, 2009, in Grants. He was born on August 9, 1995 in Grants.

He was a student at Los Alamitos Mid School at the time of his death.

Survivors include his father, Salvador Benavidez, Sr. of Grants; step-mother, Arlene Onase of Laguna; mother, Paula Delara of Prewitt; step-father, Joe Delara of Globe, Arizona; brothers, Salvador Benavidez, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Juan Benavidez of Japan, Joseph Edward Delara of Globe; sisters, Anna Cause of Albuquerque, Tieyerra Delara of Globe, Angel Renee Delara of Globe, Audrey Kee of Globe.

Pallbearers will be Fabian H. Abeita, Casz C. Abeita, Herman F. Abeita, Juan J. Benavidez, John Joseph Benavidez.

GALLUP — Services are pending for Augustin Chavez, 80.

Chavez died Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Grants. He was born May 28, 1928.

Josephine Martinez

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Josephine V. Martinez, 64, will be 2 p.m., today, May 18, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date. A rosary was held 7 p.m., Sunday, May 17, at Compassion Mortuary.

Martinez died May 14, 2009, in Gallup. She was born on August 7, 1944 in Nambe, New Mexico.

Survivors include her companion, Eugene Gurule of Grants; sons, Ramon Martinez of Grants, Danny Martinez of Grants; sister, Petita Romero of Nambe; brothers, Joe Vigil of Nambe, Tranquilion Vigil of Nambe; seven grandchildren.

Martinez was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Vigil and Francis Vigil; husband, Dennis L. Martinez; brothers, Juan Vigil, Victoriano Vigil.

Pallbearers will be Dominic Vigil, Dickie Sandoval, Jose Granadino, Orlando Cordova, Leo Casaus, Roel Martinez.

Katherine Smith

NASCHITTI — Graveside services for Katherine C. Smith, 81, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, at Naschitti Christian Reformed Church. Phillip Destea will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Cemetery, Naschitti.

Smith died May 15, 2009. She was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Naschitti, into the Towering House People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Smith mad a living as a homemaker, and caring for her siblings. Her hobbies included rug weaver, ranching, and attending church.

Survivors include her brothers, John C. Begay, Neal C. Begay, Edward C. Begay, Alfred C. Begay of Farmington, Phillip C. Begay, Joel C. Begay of Albuquerque; sister, Martha C. Begay of Naschitti.

Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith; parents, Chadacloi Begay, Ethel C. Begay.

Pallbearers will be Aldo A. Begay, Alfonso A. Begay, Garrison C. Begay, Gary C. Begay, Jay C. Begay, Miles J. Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Naschitti Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Tiffiney Stewart

CHINLE — Graveside serves for Tiffiney Jacilynn Steward “Tweet”, 23, were 1 p.m., May 16, in Chinle. Burial was in community cemetery, Chinle.

Steward died May 9, 2009, in Florence. She was born Oct. 20, 1985, in Fort Defiance, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan.

Stewart attended Chinle High School 2005. She enjoyed arts and crafts and traveling.

Pallbearers were Kris Garrett Stewart, Kevin Juaquin Chee, Darrick Walters, Stanton Yellowman, Stanson Yellowman.

The family received relatives and friends at Tsosie family residence, following services.
