Deaths

Dexter Diaz Sr.

GALLUP — Funeral Mass for Dexter Diaz Sr., 43, will be 1 p.m., Thursday, May 21, at St. Francis. The Rev. Patrick Schafer will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. A rosary will be recited 12:30 p.m., at St. Francis Church.

Diaz died May 17, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Nov. 26, 1965, int Gallup, into the Waters Edge People Clan.

Diaz attended the Gallup area schools.

Survivors include his sons, Dexter Eric Jr. of Albuquerque; daughters, Naomi, Alexis, Geneva Diaz, of Iyanbito; brother, Paul Samuel Diaz Jr.; sisters, Jolene Tom of Shiprock, Vivian Milford of Fort Defiance.

Diaz was preceded in death by his parents, Joann Escajeda, Paul Diaz Jr.; sister, Valerie Garcia; brother, Daniel Garcia; grandparents, Theodore and Polly Dawes, Pilar Diaz.

Pallbearers will be Paul Duran, Paul Diaz Jr., Robert Tim, Steven Milford, Vincent Arriola, Randy Wauneka, Lawrence Kiro.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Navajo Bible Church, Fort Defiance, following services.

Roy Blevins

MILAN — Services for Roy Franklin Blevins, 80, will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 22, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1010 Bondad, Grants. Burial will be in Pioneer Memorial Park, Bluewater. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Friday, May 22, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Blevins died May 17, 2009, in Grants. He was born April 1, 1929, in Fowlerton, Texas.

Blevins lived in Grants since 1942, when the family moved here and had a lumber business.

Survivors include his son, Roy Elbert Blevins of Bluewater; sisters, Ruth McCormick, Patty Spikes, Cecille Gray; 10 grandchildren.

Blevins was preceded in death by his parents, Arley Elbert Blevins, Ester Evelyn Walker Blevins; daughter, Evelyn Louise Blevins Fjord; brother, Ollie Clifton Blevins.

Mary Barela

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Mary E. Barela, 60, were 10 a.m., today, May 20, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial was in Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella officiated. A rosary was recited 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, at Compassion Mortuary.

Barela died May 15, 2009, in Grants. She was born June 26, 1948, in Cubero.

Survivors include her companion, Merlin; children, Nilda Barela of Albuquerque, Eugene Barela of Reno, Nev.; sister, Priscilla Romero of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers, Orlando Romero of Grants, Lucky Romero of Grants, Pete Romero of Elko, Nev.
Barela was preceded in death by her parents, Pete Romero, Nilda Baca Romero.

Pallbearers will be Michael Gonzalez, Gerald Gonzales, Roberto Gonzalez, Pete Romero, Paul Romero, Lucky Romero II, Alex Olsen, Pat Jaramillo.

Brett Williams

WINDOW ROCK — Services for Brett L. Williams, 29, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, May 21, at Rollie Mortuary. Roger Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Williams died May 17, 2009, in Window Rock. He was born Oct. 20, 1979, in Window Rock, into the Bitter Water people Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Williams graduated from Gallup High and attended school at ITT Tech in Albuquerque and Phoenix for engineering. He loved to play sports, especially softball and hanging out with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Elvira Yazzie; son, Zephyr Williams of Window Rock; Shytalia Williams of Window Rock; brother, Stephen Bitsuie of Gallup; sister, Monica Williams-Eriacho of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandmother, Florence Dawes of Window Rock.

Williams was preceded in death by his father, Kim L. Williams; grandparents, Albert L. Williams, Ruth Ann Chavez; brother, Calvert M. Beyuka.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Bitsuie, Greg Lee, Joshua Begay, Leonard Ross Jr., Leland Ross, Wallace Joe Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Gallup Community Center, Gallup.
