Terrence Anderson

SAWMILL — Funeral service for Terrence Anderson, 40, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at Assembly of God family church, Fort Defiance. The Rev. Kenneth Delaney will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Sawmill.

Anderson died May 19, 2009, in Phoenix. He was born May 22, 1968, in Fort Defiance, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Water Flows Together People Clan.

Anderson attended Window Rock High School, and worked in construction as a carpenter. He enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and playing sports like softball, baseball and basketball.

Survivors include his daughter, Corey Anderson of Window Rock; mother, Helen L. Anderson of Sawmill; brothers, Brandon Jesus, Louis Jesus, both of Phoenix; sisters, Andrea Jesus of Phoenix, Sharon Anderson of Tempe; two grandchildren.

Anderson was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Anderson; sister, Cheryl Anderson; brother, Vernon Anderson; grandparents, Sam and Marie Billie.

Pallbearers will be Lionel Damon, Brandon Jesus, Vern Nozie, Ferrell Slowtalker, Brandon Bia, Vernell Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Sawmill Chapter House, following services.

John Brown Jr.

CRYSTAL — Services are pending for John Brown Jr., 87.

Brown died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in Crystal. He was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Chinle.

Dora Garcia

SEBOYETA, N.M. — Funeral Mass for Dora Garcia, 92, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Seboyeta. Burial will be in Seboyeta Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30-3 p.m., today, May 22, at Compassion Mortuary. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, May 22, at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish.

Garcia died May 20, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born on February 4, 1917 in Seboyeta.
Survivors include her children, Karen Manuelito of New Laguna, Dori Garcia of Albuquerque, Roy Garcia of Albuquerque, Clarence Garcia of Grants, Salvador Garcia, Jr. of Seboyeta, Reyes Garcia of Seboyeta, Uvaldo Garcia and of Seboyeta, Reynaldo Garcia of Seboyeta, Diana Bernal of Albuquerque, Sandra Garcia of Seboyeta; brother, Celestino Martinez of Albuquerque; sister, Feliz Garcia of Grants; 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

Garcia was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Garcia, Sr.; parents, Seundino Martienz and Margarito Lovato Martinez; sons, Abel Lloyd Garcia, Uvaldo Garcia; brothers, Prudencio Martinez, Sr., Benito Martinez; sister, Pablita Romero.

Jackson Poyer Sr.

NAVAJO — Funeral services for Jackson Poyer Sr., 69, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at Emmanuel Mission, Sweetwater. The Rev. Eddie Benally will officiate. Burial will be in Emmanuel Mission Cemetery, Sweetwater.

Poyer died May 19, 2009, in Fort Defiance. He was born Nov. 19, 1939, in Sweetwater, into the Folded Arms People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Poyer attended Intermountain Indian School Brigham City, Utah, UCLA Technical School. His hobbies included reading the Gallup Independent and walking. He was a fan of all sports and enjoyed watching the NBA, NFL, Golf, MLB. He was employed with the Navajo Forest Products Industries as an automotive mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Poyer of Navajo; sons, Doranci Poyer of Crystal, Jason Poyer of Navajo; daugthers, Aretha Mariano of Navajo, Lisa Jean Poyer Valdez of Yucaipa, Calif., Lori Joy Poyer of Oncario, Calif.; sister, Leila Tom of Sweetwater; 16 grandchildren.

Poyer was preceded in death by his parents, George Poyer, Alice Poyer; brothers, Jimmy George, Woodie Poyer; sisters, Annie Herbert, Nellie Kee, Lucy Tom, Mamie Begay; son, Jackson Poyer Jr.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Begay Jr., Kevin Mitchell, Jason Poyer, Aaron Poyer, Duane Valdez, Doranci Poyer.

The family will receive relatives and friends 5:30 p.m., today, May 22, at Red Lake Chapter House, Navajo.

Miriam Woods

RED ROCK — Funeral Mass for Miriam J. Woods, 88, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at St. Michael Mission, St. Michaels. The Ron Walters, O.F.M. will officiate. Burial is pending.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at St. Michael Mission. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight, May 22, at Rollie Mortuary.

Woods died May 20, 2009, in Grants. She was born March 25, 1921, in St. Michaels, into the Towering House People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.

Woods graduated from St. Catherines High School, Santa Fe. She was retired from the U.S. Public Health Service after 30 years, and worked as a nurse assistant and mental health technician. She helped out with Red Rock Chapter and served on the Gallup Indian Medical Center Health Board and Steering Committee.

Survivors include her husband, Bert L. Woods Sr. of Red Rock; son, Bert Woods Jr., of Red Rock; daughter, Arlene H. Touchin of St. Michaels; five grandchildren.

Woods was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Sage, Habah Slinkey; sons, Randolph Haven, Thomas Woods.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Mission Parish Hall, following services.
