Alice Castillo

LUPTON — Services for Alice Mitchell Castillo, 74, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at Church of God, Manuelito. The Rev. Douglas Kline will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Lupton.

Visitation will be at the church during services.
Castillo died May 24, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born March 15, 1935, in Lupton, into the Water Flows Together People Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.

Castillo was a weaver and homemaker. She loved to sew, cook and enjoying being with family.

Survivors include her sons, Jeffrey Castillo of Manuelito, Leslie Castillo of Lupton, Ernest Castillo of Albuquerque, Leonard Castillo of Lupton; daughters, Nancy Brown of Lupton, Marilyn Lee of Lupton, Susie Charlie of Sundance, Carol Murphy of Albuquerque, Irene Castillo of Albuquerque, Ruth Hovel of Phoenix; brothers, Johnny Castillo of Lupton, Raymond Castillo of Window Rock, Jimmie Castillo of Page, Jackson Castillo of Lupton, Ben Shelley of Phoenix; sisters, Rita Roan of Lupton, Annie Castillo of Phoenix, Clara Price of Phoenix, Edith Kline of Fort Defiance, Jane Tapaha of Lupton, Lorraine Shirley of Phoenix, Ella Mae Shelly of Thoreau, Nora Wauneka of Fort Defiance; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

Castillo was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Shelly Castillo; brother, Ello Castillo; son, James Castillo; daughter, Esther Castillo; husband, John Castillo Sr.

Pallbearers will be Travis Yazzie, Adrian Castillo, Ricky Castillo, Troy Denet Claw, Malcolm Yazzie, Emery Lee.

The family will receive relatives and friends at family residence in Lupton, following services. The family met at Lupton Chapter 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 27.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Arnold Jim

PINEDALE — Funeral services for Arnold Dawes Jim, 38, will be 10 a.m., May 30, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Sister Sarah H. Begay will officiate. Burial will be in Standing Rock.

Jim was born April 1, 1971, in Gallup.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Jim; son, Ray Jim; step-sons, Derrick Lee, Patrick Lee, Roberick Lee; daughter, Janella Jim; father, Fred Jim.

Pallbearers will be Edward Hubbard, Mitchell Lee, Ernest Dawes, Jerald Thompson, Herald Thompson, Harry Thompson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Standing Rock Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Susie Pumpkinseed

ST. MICHAELS — Funeral Mass for Susie Mae Pumpkinseed, 68, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. The Rev. Ron Walters will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m., at the church.

Pumpkinseed died May 24, 2009, in Englewood, Colo. She was born July 2, 1940, in St. Michaels, into the Hairy One People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Pumpkinseed received her Associate Degree from Dine College. She was a receptionist with C.E.R.T. and was a member of NAC, Denver March Powwow Committee, and numerous cultural and traditional events.

Survivors include her sons, Henry Lewis of Denver, Colo., Donovan Mitchell, Colo., Garrett Mitchell, Ted Mitchell, Floyd Mitchell, all of Denver; daughters, Anselma Mitchell of Denver, Jennifer Scott of St. Michaels, Laureen Mitchell of Denver, Geneva Mitchell of Denver, Susie Mitchell of Denver; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Pumpkinseed was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Pumpkinseed; parents, Frank and Clara Mitchell; brothers, Frank Mitchell, Edward Mitchell; sisters, Anna Mitchell, Jennie Mitchell-Barney.

Pallbearers will be Donovan Mitchell, Garrett Mitchell, Floyd Mitchell, Benson Scott, Leal Mitchell, Kendrick Lewis.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Chapter House, following services.
