Arthur Carver

THOREAU — Memorial services for Arthur Lee Carver, 82, will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 1, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Bob Brittian will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallup. Visitation will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 1, at Rollie Mortuary.

Carver died May 26, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Gallup.

Carver graduated from High School. He was a General Engineering Contractor and a registered Angus Cattle rancher. He was a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps during WWII, and received his Purple Heart.

Survivors include his sons, Jeff Carver, Randall Carver; daughter, Julie Dominguez; brothers, Ronald Carver, Larry Carver; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Carver was preceded in death by his wife, Germayne; son, Bruce.

Pallbearers will be Robert Carver, Rendall Carver, Denny Carver, Keven Carver, Craig Carver, Jason Carver.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Alice John

BLACK SOIL — Funeral services for Alice Yanabah Haven John, 87, will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 1, at Window Rock Church of God. The Rev. Jerry Tom will officiate. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Kinlichee.

John died May 28, 2009, in Gallup. She was born July 1, 1921, in Black Soil, Ariz., into the Big Water People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.

John attended Kinlichee Boarding School and was employed with Klagetoh Chapter and was a homemaker. She was well known for her rug weaving. Her hobbies included herding sheep, rug weaving, sewing, making traditional outfits, attending traditional ceremonies, cooking, riding horses, gardening, watching her favorite show, Three’s Company and Sanford and Son, spending time with grandchildren and doing puzzles with them.

Survivors include her sons, James H. John of Mission Viejo, Calif., Teddy John of Klagetoh, Paul John of Iyanbito, Peter John of Chichiltah; daugthers, Ella May Begay of Gallup, Elizabeth Jenses of Lakewood, Calif., Maggie Johnson of Tohlakai; sister, Habah Tsinnijinnie of Klagetoh; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by her husband, Frank John; father, Chee Haven; sister, Zonnibah Herder; daughter, Elsie John.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Robert Paul

ENID, Okla. — Robert Paul, 73, former resident of Gallup, died May 21, 2009, in Enid, Okla. He was born Jan. 15, 1936.

Paul was active in scouts earning his God and Country Award. He attended school in Gallup, graduating in 1954. He was active in sports, especially football, which led to his career as a sports broadcaster.

Survivors include his sisters, Patricia Parker of Buena Park, Calif., Susan of Olathe, Kan.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; brother, Palmer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Circle of Love 314 So. 3rd St., Enid, Okla. 73701.

Abraham Plummer Sr.

DILKON — Funeral services for Abraham Plummer Sr., 74, were 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church. James Paddock officiated. Burial was in Rehoboth.

Plummer died May 24, 2009, in Dilcon. He was born April 13, 1935, in Tohatchi, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Folded Arms People Clan.

Plummer attended Rehoboth Christian High School, New Mexico Highlands University, were he received his BA Degree for Social Working, and University of Denver, were he received his masters in Education. He worked as a Navajo Nation Probation Officer, Ramah Navajo School Executive Director, DNA Law Advocate, taught at Dine College and Indian Health Service as head of the Behavioral Health in Winslow. Plummer was in the US Navy Medic/Reserves. He was one of the first to serve on the McKinley County School Board in the early 70’s, and the National Indian School Board Association Executive Director. He was a member of NNRCA, AIRCA, DSRA, USRTC.

Survivors include his wife, Sista Paddock Plummer; son, Abe Plummer Jr.; daughters, Pamela Plummer, Monica Plummer, Abby Plummer, Valerie Plummer; brothers, Richard Plummer Sr., Marshall Plummer, Herman Plummer Sr.; sisters, Pearl Plummer Begay, Rita Yazzie, Alice Barber; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Plummer was preceded in death by his sons, Orrin Plummer, Gary Plummer; parents, Ned Plummer, Bekisbah Plummer; brothers, Edward O. Plummer, Hugh Plummer, Ned Plummer II, Harold Plummer; sister, Sena Clark.

Pallbearers were Darren Barber, Edison “Chip” Begay Jr., Nate Plummer, Duane Plumber, Herman Plummer Jr., Ned Plummer III.

The family received relatives and friends at Rehoboth Fellowship Hall, Rehoboth, following services.
