Willie Begay

FOREST LAKE — Graveside services for Willie K. Begay, 88, will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 5, at family cemetery, Forest Lake, Ariz. The Rev. Jimmy Little will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Forest Lake.

Begay died June 1, 2009, in Polacca. He was born March 21, 1921, in Forest Lake, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Yucca Fruit People Clan.

Begay went to school up to the 11th grade. He was a retired manager from the Trading Post in 1984 and was discharged from the Marines in 1946. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Begay; sons, Nelson Begay, Dennison K. Begay; daughters, Kristy K. Begay, Darlene Chee, Irene Chee; brother, Ned Kescou; sisters, Maxine Kescou, May Pulinos, Mary Gilmore, Alice J. Begay, Mary Ann Sherloc, Irene Crank, Julia Russel; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Teresa Little’s residence, 10 a.m., Friday, June 5.

Polletta Bowman

ALBUQUERQUE — Services for Polletta K. Bowman, 41, will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 5, at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will be in Crownpoint Community Cemetery.

Bowman died May 31, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec. 7, 1967, in Albuquerque.

Survivors include her children, Raynaldo Bowman of Albuquerque, Scioscia Bowman of Little Creek, Va.; father, Clinton Jim Sr. of Standing Rock; mother, Phoebe Yazzie of Albuquerque; companion, Jeff Brown of Albuquerque; sisters, Jenice Jim of Phoenix, Jesse of Crownpoint; brothers, Clinton Jim Jr. of Window Rock, Jerome Jim of Albuquerque, Karl C. Jim of Gallup, Winston Jim of Armore, Okla., William Jim of Crownpoint; three grandchildren.

Bowman was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ned and Katherine Yazzie, Willie and Mary K. Jim.

Pallbearers will be Carlos Damon IV, Joe Brown, Jeff Brown, Karl Jim, Justin Antone, Rob Murphy, Tim Murphy, Lexy Arviso Jr., Skye Eagleman.

Johnnie Chee

REHOBOTH — Services are pending for Johnnie H. Chee, 67.

Chee died Tuesday, June 2, in Albuquerque. She was born March 8, 1942, in Pinehaven.

Nancy Draper

DEL MUERTO, Ariz. — Services for Nancy Ruth Draper, 69, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 5, at Chinle Catholic Church, Chinle.

Draper died May 30, 2009. She was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Bessemer, Mich.

Draper was raised in Manitowish Waters, Wis. She attended high school at Douner Seminary for girls in Milwaukee , MO. and received her Associates Degree at Stevens College in Columbia, Mo. She continued her education receiving Bachelor’s in Primary Education from The University of Arizona and a Masters in Education from Northern Arizona University. While growing up, her family owned Voss’ Breezy Point Resort and she was a member of “Skiing Skeeters” water-ski team. Draper was the first girl to go over a ski jump. She then attended the University of Arizona to study education and become a teacher. While at U of A she was on the rifle team and a member of the American Indian Club. Draper loved horses, she and her husband raised and raced horses. She also loved to read and had an elaborate novel collection.

Draper worked for Chinle Unified School District for 25+ years and retired in 1996. She lived in Flagstaff, Chinle and then moved to the Draper Ranch at Del Muerto. 

Survivors include her husband, Richard P. Draper; children, Kimberly S. Draper, Richard H. Draper, David S. Draper; sister, Susan Voss-Kraut; brother, Henry C. Voss; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Richard Jacoby

ST. MICHAELS — Services are pending for Richard E. Jacoby, 70.

Jacoby died June 1, 2009, in St. Michaels. He was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Gallup.

Louise Osife

FORT DEFIANCE — Services for Louise Marie Osife, 58, will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 5, at LDS Church, Shiprock. Elder Dickie Nez Tsosie will officiate. Burial will be in community cemetery, Shiprock. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Osife died May 28, 2009, in Scottsdale. She was born Dec. 24, 1950, in Toadlena, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Bear People Clan.

Osife attended Toadlena Boarding School, Intermountain Indian School and Wingate High School. She resided in Fort Defiance. Her hobbies included attending Song and Dance, fishing, going for walks with her grandchildren, coloring, doing cross word puzzles, and watching movies. She was a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include her sons, Anthony Osife, Jeremy Osife; daughter, Jolene Osife of Tempe; brother, Paul Beyal of Fort Defiance.

Osife was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Abbie White; brother, Morris Lee; sisters, Jane White, Edna Watchman.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Watchman, Lorenzo Watchman, Anthony Beyal, Merle Densti, Daniel White.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints Church Culture Hall, Shiprock, following services.

Michelle Thompson

ALBUQUERQUE — Services are pending for Michelle Thompson, 37.

Thompson died Sunday, May 31, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Sept. 2, 1971, in Albuquerque.

A family meeting will be 5 p.m., tonight, June 4, at the late Frank Toms residence, Continental Divide, 4 1/2 miles N. of County Rd. 61 house #358.

Martha Wilden

FARMINGTON — Celebration of life for Martha “Marti” Ann Sturdivant Wilden, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, Farmington.

Wilden died Sunday, May 31, 2009, in Fairfield, Calif. She was born Dec. 7, 1944, in Gallup.

Wilden attended and graduated from Gallup High School. She moved to San Juan County in 1981, and married Jack R. Wilden in 1983 in Cortez, Colo.

She had a contagious smile and great sense of humor and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and especially a dear friend to all. Survivors include her husband, Jack R. Wilden; son, Mick Hug; daughter, Krista Wilden; sisters, Gail Woods, Louise Brashears; brothers, Otis Sturdivant Jr., Richard Sturdivant, Tony Alvarado; two grandchildren.

Wilden was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Ernest and Josie Sturdivant and Martha and Levi DeArmond; and by a sister, Patricia Bingham.
