Estevan Baca

GRANTS — Funeral Mass for Estevan “Steve” Baca, 80, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, June 18, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park, with full military honors by the VFW Lodge 3321. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. A rosary will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Baca died June 15, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born July 11, 1928, in Albuquerque.

Baca lived in the Atrisco neighborhood before moving to San Mateo and then to Grants, where he graduated from Grants High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He was a Deputy with the Valencia County Sheriffs Office and retired from Homestake Mines.

Survivors include his children, Cecil Baca of Albuquerque, Ralph Baca of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Lea Venable of Grants, Sara Baca of Oklahoma City, Francis Hartman of Mesquite, Nev.; brothers, Arsenio Baca of Little Rock, Ark., Edward Baca of Grants; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.

Baca was preceded in death by his wife, Eva R. Baca; parents, Rafael Baca, Seferina Gonzales Baca; sons, Steven Baca, Joseph Baca, Lawrence Baca; brother, Norman Baca; sister, Clorinda Banmann.

Pallbearers will be John Reynolds, Darell Evans, Geraro Ramirez, Ralph Sedillio, Brandon Rael, Gerry Venable, Mateo Blaugrund, Frankie Garcia.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Junior DuBoise

JONES RANCH — Funeral services for Junior DuBoise, 69, will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, at the Valley View Church of God, Skeets Rd. Bishop Jerry DuBoise will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Jones Ranch.

DuBoise died June 11, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Jones Ranch, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

DuBoise enjoyed working as a silversmith with Tobe Turpens. He also worked on the railroad, and did logging in Utah. He enjoyed helping others, working around the house and traveling.

Survivors include his son, Junior Dale DuBoise of Jones Ranch; brothers, Rev. David DuBoise, James DuBoise, Johnny DuBoise, Fred DuBoise, all of Jones Ranch; sisters, Winnie Golow, Louise King, Ella Young, Alice DuBoise, Helen Benally, all of Jones Ranch.

DuBoise was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Brown DuBoise; son, Jaye DuBoise; brother, Jabe DuBoise; parents, Jim and Mary DuBoise.

Pallbearers will be Harrison Henderson, Ortega Henderson, Emerson Begay; Keith Benally, Fredrick DuBoise, Leonard Martinez.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Chichiltah Chapter House, following services.

Jane Lohmann

COAL BASIN — Jane Damerson Lohmann, 91, died June 15, 2009, in Coal Basin. She was born March 26, 1918, in St. Louis, Mo.

Lohmann was born to Cora Bell and Ernest Dameron. She and her husband married Oct. 30, 1940, and enjoyed 69 years of marriage. She was an Army wife, successful business woman in Germany and the mother of three sons. She traveled the world with her husband, Captain Lohmann. They moved to Gallup from Buedingen, Germany, 1986.

Survivors include her husband, Walter A. Lohmann; sons, Karl Lohmann of Coal Basin, Dr. George Patton Lohmann of Woods Hole, Mass., Dr. Kyger C. Lohmann of Ann Arbor, Mich.; three grandchildren.

Susan Madey

GALLUP — Services for Susan Madey, 64, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, at St. Francis Church, Gallup. Visitation will be 7 p.m., tonight, June 16, at Cope Memorial Chapel. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, June 16, at Cope Memorial Chapel.

Madey died June 13, 2009. She was born April 7, 1945, in Gallup.

Madey lived her life giving rather than receiving. She loved cooking, baking, and helping people.

She loved being with her family, compassionate, sincerely forward, non-judgmental, and quick to forgive. Madey was an inspiring woman to all of her family and friends and her compassionate ways of living will continue in the hearts and lives of all the people she touched.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Madey; sons, Alfredo DuBois, Antonio DuBois, robert Gallegos; daughters, Bernadette DuBois-Munoz, Nicki Rascon, Mercedes Dalton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Madey was preceded in death by her parents, Prudencio and Sally Gallegos; brothers, Daniel Gallegos, Salvador Gallegos; sister, Margaret Gallegos; son, Joseph Nanez.

Pallbearers will be Alfredo DuBois, Phillip DuBois, Robert Cupp, John Trujillo, Joe Suarez IV, Jose Romero.

Helen Morgan

STANDING ROCK — Services for Helen S. Morgan, 77, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church, Rehoboth. Burial will be in Rehoboth Mission.

Morgan died June 12, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Standing Rock, into the Salt People Clan for the Two Who Came to the Water People Clan.

Morgan graduated from Albuquerque Indian School in 1952 and went to Intermountain after high school and later returned to her homeland working as a cook and dorm aid for BIA schools where she participated and graduated from the NM State Cooperative Extension Homemaker’s College. She retired from BIA in 1974, to own and operate a small business in Crownpoint. In the late 1970’s she returned to work at the Crownpoint Technical Institute as a dorm aid retiring in the late 1980s, and continued her life as a self-employed seamstress and became actively involved in the Standing Rock senior citizen program as representative, as well as spearheading the arts and crafts program for the center. Morgan assisted in the development and establishment of the Standing Rock Church of God and other churches in the Eastern Navajo area. She enjoyed raising herds of goats and sheep, sewing, crocheting, weaving, playing the keyboard, piano, guitar, drums, harmonica, accordian, cooking and helping to care and raise her grandchildren. Morgan was the song leader for church services. her biggest passion was caring for her husband and being his companion.

Survivors include her husband, Wilson Morgan; daughters, Freda Joe, Phoebe Morgan, Etheline Morgan, all of Standing Rock, Helena Skow of Window Rock; brothers, Irvin C. Smith, Buddy D. Smith, both of Standing Rock; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Morgan was preceded in death by her son, Elmer Morgan; parents, Cecil and Evelyn Smith; sister, Hilda Atencio; brother, Roy B. Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jason Joe, Cory Joe, Malcom Skow, Xavier Morgan, Michael Morgan, Fredrick Smith.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Standing Rock Chapter, following services.

Marie Morgan

CHICHILTAH — Services are pending for Marie Morgan, 85.

Morgan died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Gallup. She was born June 21, 1923, in Two Wells into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Cecilia Owens

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral Mass for Cecilia Eva Owens, 45, will be 10 a.m., June 17, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Fort Defiance. The Rev. Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery, St. Michaels. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Owens died June 12, 2009, in Farmington. She was born June 2, 1964, in Morenci, into the Big Water People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.

Owens attended Morenci High School, graduated from NAU, Flagstaff with a BA in Accounting, and a Masters in Business Administration. She was employed with Target Sales. Owen enjoyed walking and her hobbies included being active in the church, doing crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with family.

Survivors include her son, Gabriel Jones of Gallup; daughters, Rebecca Jones of Albuquerque, Toni Thomas of Fort Defiance; father, Edison Owens Sr. of Fort Defiance; brother, Edison Owens Jr. of Gallup; sisters, Amelia Holtsoi of Fort Defiance, Carnelia Owens of Fort Defiance.

Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Jones of Gallup; mother, Eva Harvey Owens; sister, Adelia Skeet.

Pallbearers will be Theron Owens, Jason Owens, William Holtsoi, Benjamin Bowman, Jimmy Skeet, Edison Owens III.

The family will met 6 p.m., June 16, at St. Dominic Parish Hall, Fort Defiance.
