Maggie Ashley

HOUCK — Memorial services for Maggie Speen Ashley, 86, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Good News Church, Houck. The Rev. Milt Shirleson will officiate. Burial will be in Houck Community Cemetery.

Ashley died June 20, 2009, in Houck. She was born May 20, 1923, in Cedar Point, into the Black Streak People Clan for the Edge Water People Clan.

Ashley was a homemaker, rug weaver and was very humble. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Survivors include his sons, Jimmy, Roy, Harrison; daughters, Sherry, Julia, Lynda, Eloise, Marjorie, Bessie, Carol, Susie; brother, John Speen; sisters, Bah Yazzie Ashley, Josephine John; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Ashley was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Ashley; five brothers; two sisters; one daughter.

Pallbearers will be Arnold Martinez, Jonah Castillo, Andrew Olivia, Eric Ashley, Brian Charley, Floyd Hubbard.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Houck Chapter House, following services.

Jack Kittle

GRANTS — Services for Jack Kittle, 83, were 10 a.m., today, June 23, at Compassion Mortuary.
Kittle died June 19, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born July 10, 1925, in Schodack Landing, NY.

Kittle’s first full time job was at Fort Orange Paper Company in Castleton, NY., and weekends he helped his brother-in-law by working in the orchards and bailing hay. When he married Lois in 1948, he got a job with a wholesale distributor in the warehouse. He said that his greatest accomplishment was when his daughter was born. She was his pride and joy. When the family moved to New Mexico in 1977, he was hired by Gulf Mineral Resources in the warehouse. When Gulf closed, he stayed on a guard until he retired in 1990. His home was always filled with love. He loved all animals, taking in strays who always returned in kindness with their devotion and love.

His love will always be with us and we will miss him.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Kittle of Grants; daughter, Donna Kittle of Grants; brother, Louie Kittle of Connecticut; sister, Leona Sultan of Latham, NY.

Kittle was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Rachel Kittle; sister, Esther Morrison.

Margarito Lopez

GALLUP — Memorial services for Margarito Joe Lopez, 72, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Gallup. The Rev. William O’keefe will officiate.

Lopez died June 20, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Dec. 29, 1936, in Abo, N.M.

Lopez attended the Old Abo School House. He worked at B.F. Goodrick, was a certified mechanic, El Rancho Shell, and Armco Gas Station. His hobbies include fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona Lopez; sons, Chris Lopez of Gallup, Lawrence Lopez of Farmington, Amiel Garcia of Corpus Christy, Texas, Paul Garcia of Gallup, Alex Garcia of Albuquerque, Pat Garcia of Gallup; daughters, Cynthia Espinosa of Gallup, Diane DiPomazio of Farmington, Corrine Yound of Albuquerque; brothers, Emilio Lopez of Albuquerque, George Lopez of Albuquerque, Tony Lopez of Albuquerque, Richard Lopez of Albuquerque; sisters, Lucy Gallegos of Albuquerque, Gloria Lopez Davidson of Albuquerque, Barbara Banvelos of San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Lopez was preceded in death by Esequiel and Isabelita Lopez, Carmen Baca, Acencion (Mary) Chavez, Mabel Wheeler, Ernest Lopez.

Pallbearers will be Armando Espinosa, Richard Lopez, Sean Garcia, Ysabel Chavarria, Anthony Rodriguez, Pat Anaya.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Matthew Martin

CROWNPOINT — Services are pending for Matthew Martin Sr., 84.

Martin died June 22, 2009, in Crownpoint. He was born May 3, 1925, in Becenti.

Martin was a Navajo Code Talker with the US Marines during World War II.

A family meeting will be 6 p.m., tonight, June 23, at Becenti Chapter House, Becenti. Everyone is asked to attend and help the family at this time.
