Deaths

Robert Kocsis

GALLUP — Graveside services for Robert L. Kocsis will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Jay McCullum will officiate.

Kocsis died June 17, 2009, in Gallup. He was born May 1, 1932, in Gallup.

Kocsis attended Gallup High School. He was in the U.S. Navy and worked for the Santa Fe railroad for 38 years as a brakeman and conductor. He was a lifetime member of United Trans. Union and BPO and Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his son, Tim Kocsis; sister, Nancy Wall; four grandchildren.

Kocsis was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia “Dolly” Kocsis; sisters, Virginia Gasparich, Carolyn Bortot; parents, Joseph J. Kocsis, Edna Mae.

The family will meet at Ranch Kitchen, Gallup, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society and Gallup Rehoboth Christian Hospital.

Matthew Martin Sr.

CROWNPOINT — Services for Matthew Martin Sr., 84, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at the Gospel Light House Assembly of God Church, Crownpoint. The Rev. Carols Bakai will officiate. Burial will be in Crownpoint Community Cemetery.

Martin died June 22, 2009, in Crownpoint. He was born May 3, 1925, in Becenti.

Martin was a Navajo Code Talker with the U.S. Marines during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Etsitty Martin of Crownpoint; children, Matthew Martin Jr. of Arlington, Virginia, Jasper Martin of Phoenix, LaMar Martin of Crownpoint, Patrick Martin of Crownpoint, Pearlinda Martin of Crownpoint, Bernadette Martin of Crownpoint, Merlinda Martin of Becenti, Pearl Nez of Standing Rock, Patricia Begay of Becenti, Lucinda Rosenbaure of Deming, Sharlinda Martin of Standing Rock, Brenda Martin of Portland, Org.; brothers, Paul Martin of Pinedale, Leo Martin of Crownpoint, Billie Martin of Crownpoint; sisters, Bernice Etcitty of Standing Rock, Alice Platero of Crownpoint; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Marrtin, Christine Tse Martin; sons, Eugene Martin, Delbert Martin, Mar Martin; brothers, Willie Martin, Tom Martin; sister, Mary Biggs.

Pallbearers will be Lamar Martin, Kee Benally, Alfred H. Begay Jr., Zachary Largo, Raymond Enrico, Quinn Etcitty.

Dr. Harold Milam

FARMINGTON — Dr. Harold Milam, 91, died June 18, 2009, in Farmington. He was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Las Vegas, N.M.

Milam grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from UNm and went on to Kansas City Dental College.

After graduation he enlisted in the Army as Captain. He was honorably discharged and came to Gallup to establish a Dental practice and raise a family.

Survivors include his son, David Harold; daugther, Katherine Holmes; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Milam was preceded in death by his twin boys, Steven Earl; wife, Doris.

Jerry Silversmith Sr.

JONES RANCH — Funeral services for Jerry Silversmith Sr., 55, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Lee will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Jones Ranch.

Silversmith died June 24, 2009, in Shiprock. He was born Nov. 14, 1953, in Jones Ranch, into the Black Streak People Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.

Silversmith attended Jones Ranch Elementary School and graduated from Intermountain School, Brigham City, Utah. He took welding and turned out in 1974 and started working for local Union 412 up to 2008. He enjoyed fishing, playing softball, welding, and anything outdoor. He cherished his family.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Silversmith of Farmington; daughters, Jerilysa Silversmith of Las Vegas, Nev., Shelby Silversmith of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers, Arthur Silversmith of Jones Ranch, Clifford Silversmith of Gallup, Terry Silversmith of Chinle, Chester Silversmith of Gallup, Ted Benally of Yatahey; sisters, Virginia Silversmith of Jones Ranch, Arlene Edwards of Deming; one grandchild.

Silversmith was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elizabeth Silversmith; grandparents, Sam and Etta Silversmith; son, Jerry Silversmith Jr.

Pallbearers will be Kennon Houston, Elias Houston, Terry Silversmith, Paul C. Begay, Henry Begay, Kenny Houston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Rollie Mortuary.
