Walter Barney Sr.
MEXICAN SPRINGS — Funeral services for Walter Barney Sr., 81, will b e 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery.
Barney died June 24, 2009, in Gallup. He was born May 31, 1928, in Mexican Springs, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Salt People Clan.
Barney was employed with the railroad, Kerr McGee Mine, Shipyard in Mississippi. His hobbies included carpentry, yard work, watching wrestling, hunting, watching the parades and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine C. Barney of Mexican Springs; sons, Albert Barney of Mexican Springs, Walter Barney of Santa Fe; daughters, Bertha Barney, Thelma Yazzie, both of Mexican Springs; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
Barney was preceded in death by his father, Slim Begay; mother; son, LCPL Samuel Barney.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Whitegoat, Walter Barney Jr., Ray Yazzie, Herman Spencer, Patricia Yazzie, Roberta Begay.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Mexican Springs Chapter, following services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Leroy Costillo
CROWNPOINT — Graveside services for Leroy Costillo, 40, will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, at the family ranch, Heart Butte. Burial will be in family plot.
Costillo was born Jan. 8, 1969, in Crownpoint, into the Tangle People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.
Costillo graduated from Wingate High School in 1989, and attended Navajo Technical College for carpentry. He enjoyed being with his son, family and friends. His hobbies included playing guitar, ranch work, listening to music, hanging out with friends. He will be missed by all.
Survivors include her son, Leander Roy Costillo of Crownpoint; brothers, Tommy Castillo of Thoreau, Johnny Castillo of Farmington, Jerry Castillo of Farmington, Leo Paul Castillo of Crownpoint, Autry Harry of Hobbs, Herman Smith of Ojo Encino, Leo Castillo Jr. of Farmington; sisters, Esther Manuelito of Farmington, Laberta Castillo of Farmington, Agnes Sajbin of Maryland, Genevieve Castillo of Crownpoint, Vangie Tully of Crownpoint, Bernita Castillo, Ella Mae Castillo, both of Crownpoint.
Costillo was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Teller-Costillo; mother, Juanita Castillo; father, Leo Castillo Sr.; grandparents, Wilson Smith, Mable Smith.
Pallbearers will be Leo Castillo Jr., Herman Smith, Autry Harry, Scott Smith, Jeremiah Bebo, Marcus Chavez.
The family will receive relatives and friends at family residence, following services.
Cope Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
