Deaths

Nelson Begay Sr.

IYANBITO — Funeral services for Nelson Begay Sr., 69, will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 13, at First Baptist Church, Gallup. The Rev. Clyde Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Begay died July 8, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Sept. 8, 1939, in Manuelito, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Begay was a silversmith doing sand casting, a welder at Gallup Welding Company and worked at Morris Change Company in Denver, Colo., as a welder. He worked for Kerr McGee Mine and was a bus driver for McKinley County and Fort Wingate Elementary School where he retired.

Survivors include his sons, Van Ernie Begay, Nelson Begay Jr., both of Iyabito; daughters, Doris Jean Charley, Delphina Jill Begay, Dorsilla June Begay, all of Iyanbito, Dornelda Janet Begay of Manuelito, Thelma Jean Yazzie of Albuquerque; brothers, Wilson L. Begay of William Acres, Harry L. Begay of Fort Wingate; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta K. Begay; parents, Linda Silversmith, Luke Begay; brothers, Frank L. Begay, Benny L. Begay.

Pallbearers will be Derek Begay, Duane Charley, Julius Martin, Patrick Begay, Ryan Mitchell, Edward Duffy Jr., Christopher McLaine.

The family will receive relatives and friends at First Baptist Church, Gallup, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Edmond Edsitty

GALLUP — Funeral services for Edmond Henry Edsitty, 61, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11, at Rollie Palm Chapel. Kevin and Tamara Gains will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery, Mexican Springs.

Edsitty died Monday, July 6, 2009, in Gallup. He was born April 10, 1948, in Rehoboth, into the Red Running Into the Edge of Water People Clan for the Zia People Clan.

Edsitty worked for the Schlitz Bottling Company, Holiday Nursery and other labor jobs.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Edsitty of Gamerco; sons, Drew Edsitty, Ervin Wilson, Rodney Wilson; daughter, Cynthia Edsitty of Gamerco; five grandchildren.

Edsitty was preceded in death by his father, Grover T. Edsitty; mother, Clara Edsitty; sisters, Irene M. Silversmith, Della Tsosie; brother, Edison Edsitty.

Pallbearers will be Thaddeus “Tigger” Tsosie, Lewistus “Ludy” Silversmith, Drew Edsitty, Ervin Wilson, Darryl Paul, Kyle Olguin.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Mexican Springs Chapter House, following services.

Emery Lomaintewa

KEAMS CANYON — Services for Emery Lomaintewa, 45, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, at Sunlight Baptist Community Center, Second Mesa. Lomaintewa will officiate. Burial will be in Second Mesa, Ariz. Visitation will be in Sunlight Baptist Community Center.

Lomaintewa died July 8, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 21, 1964, in Keams Canyon, into the Hopi People Clan for the Bear Strap People Clan.

Lomaintewa graduated from Wingate High and from HVAC Tech in Flagstaff. He was employed at Cash Cow, and was also a handyman. His hobbies included fishing, hiking, camping, bullriding, and snowboarding.

Survivors include his sons, Grayson Lomaintewa, Emery Lomaintewa Jr.; daughter, Athena Lomaintewa; mother, Marjorie Garcia; brothers, Luke Lomaintewa, Scott Garcia, Elwyn Lomaintewa, Mark Lomaintewa; step-brother, Kevin Garcia; sister, Lisa Nelson; three grandchildren.

Lomaintewa was preceded in death by his father, Elwyn “Wings” Lomaintewa.

Pallbearers will be Sam Martinez, Scott Garcia, Mark Lomaintewa, Elwyn Lomaintewa, Mo Lomaintewa, Kevin Garcia, Luke Lomaintewa, Dwight Nelson, David Lomaintewa.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Sunlight Baptist Community Center, following services.

Julia Tom

GALLUP — Services are pending for Julia Tom, 91.

Tom died Friday, July 10, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Red Rock, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Meadow People Clan.

A community gathering will be 6 p.m., tonight, July 11, at Red Rock Chapter House.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Correction for Helen Gregory

CHURCHROCK — Survivors include her three grandchildren.

Gregory was preceded in death by her grandmother, Katherian James.

GALLUP — Survivors include her husband, Bob L. James; son, Richard L. James; daughter, Melissa M. Bianco; sister, Dorothy Jones, Mary R. Begay, Priscillia Wilson, Lucille Belone; brothers, Robert H. Hood Jr., Watson Hood, Henry Hood, Ronald Hood.

James was preceded in death by her father, Robert H. Hood Sr.; brother, Albert Tom Hood, Gibson Hood, Donald Hood, Glenson Hood.
