Helen Curley

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Helen Curley, 68, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at Window Rock United Methodist Church, Window Rock. The Rev. Shirley John will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Deer Springs.

Curley died July 19, 2009, in Fort Defiance. She was born March 10, 1941, in Fort Defiance, into the Blacksheep People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Survivors include her sons, Michael F.Curley, Franklin Curley Jr.; daughters, Jacqueline Curley, Renae E. Curley; mother, Mary B. Wauneka; brother, Woodrow Wauneka; sisters, Anita Wauneka, Loretta Wauneka, Joanne James, Emma Sazue, Geraldine Lopez; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Curley was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Curley Sr.; father, Clarence Wauneka; brothers, Francis K. Wauneka Sr., Johnson Wauneka, Frankie Wauneka; sisters, Ruby Johnson, Alvin Wauneka.

Pallbearers will be Michael F. Curley, Franklin Curley Jr., Woodrow Wauneka, Anthony Bryant, Christopher Curley, Alonzo Tsosie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Good Shepard Mission Parish Hall, following services.

Gabriel Klade

ALBUQUERQUE — Funeral services for Gabriel Arin Klade, 8, will be 1 p.m., Friday, July 24, at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Klade died July 20, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born Oct. 9, 2000, in Gallup, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the White People clan.

Klade was attending homebound Albuquerque Public School. His hobbies included reading, watching his favorite movies, and playing on the computer with his teachers.

Survivors include his parents, Marshalene Klade, John Harding, both of Albuquerque; brother, Jiulius Harding of Albuquerque; sisters, Sara Harding, Alicia Meza of Albuquerque.

Klade was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Susie Klade of Churchrock.

Pallbearers will be John Harding, Cyril Klade, Gregory Klade, Gerald Long Jr., Delbert Long.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Churchrock Chapter House, following services.

Melisa Lewis

SAN FIDEL — Services for Melisa Jane Lewis, 50, were 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Milan. The Rev. Garland Moore officiated. Burial was Tuesday, July 22, in Cario Church Cemetery, Cario, Tenn.

Lewis died July 16, 2009, in San Fidel. She was born June 14, 1959, in Crocket Mills, Tenn.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Lewis of San Fidel; son, Shawn Lewis of San Fidel; sisters, Elaine Batlis of Naples, Fla., Glynda Flower of Alamo, Tenn.; brohters, Gerald Ward of Alamo, Tenn., Kenneth Ward of Yuma, Tenn, Donald Ward of Alamo, Tenn., Paul Ward of Alamo, Tenn., Farrow Ward of Trento, Tenn., Milton Ward of Friendship, Tenn., Stephen Ward of Alamo, Tenn.

Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, James Hollis Ward, Lena Belle Taylor Ward.

Lala Martinez

GALLUP — Memorial services for Lala Martinez, 72, will be 11 a.m., Friday, July 24, at Little Sister’s of the Poor, Gallup. The Rev. Alfred Tachias will officiate. private disposition will be at a later date. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, July 23, at Little Sister’s of the Poor Chapel.

Martinez died July 17, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Dec. 21, 1936, in San Miguel.

Martinez was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Pat Martinez, Salvador Martinez Jr.; Gabe Martinez; daughters, Lena Martinez, Bernadine Martinez, Donna Martinez of Boston, Mass.; brothers, Richard Padilla, LeRoy Padilla; sisters, Thelma Pena, Betty Martinez, Shirley Hernandez; six grandchildren.

Martinez was preceded in death by her father, Trinidad Padilla; son, Louie Martinez; husband, Salvador Martinez; brother, Leo Padilla; mother, Adelina Padilla; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Natasha Martinez, Scott Martinez, Allyssa Martinez, Tyanna Martinez, Kaite Martinez, Miracle Martinez.

The family will recieve relatives and friends at Little Sisters of the Poor, following services.

Zonnie Roanhorse

KLAGETOH — Funeral Mass for Zonnie Bah Roanhorse, 103, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Brother John will officiate. Burial will be in Klagetoh Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service.

Roanhorse died July 21, 2009, in Flagstaff. She was born June 10, 1906, in Pine Springs, into the Black Sheep People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.

Roanhorse was a strong and independent woman with many talents. She was a rancher, homemaker, rug weaver and was well known for her twine spinning. She was a community member of Klagetoh and always thoughy of others and gave what she could, fostering many grandchildren. She liked joking and playing with grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Joe John Roanhorse, George Roanhorse, David Roanhorse; daughters, Juanita Descheenie, Josephine Lee, Nellie Davis, Ruth Brown, Nancy Tsosie, Nora Roanhorse, Joann Green, Rosemary Roanhorse; brothers, Steven Smith, Harvey Smith, Harry Smith, Leo Smith, Phillip Smith, Richard Smith; sisters, Mary Marianito, Rose Russell, Isabelle Smith, Pauline Etsitty.

Roanhorse was preceded in death by her husband, Joe John; parents, Hugh and Mary Smith; brothers, Bobby, George, Tsosie Smith; daughter, Ella Roanhorse; one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Roanhorse, Ernie Davis, Ray Roanhorse, Bruce Roanhorse, Victor Roanhorse, RogerDescheenie.

Steven Short

BLUEWATER LAKE — Services for Steven Paul Short, 59, will be 2 p.m., Friday, July 24, at Compassion Mortuary.

Short died July 19. 2009, in Bluewater Lake. He was born Aug. 13, 1949, in Ohio.

Short was a Vietnam veteran and a Marine who served two tours. He was an artist. A kind and generous friend and loving husband.

Survivors include his wife, Moni Short of Bluewater; sisters, Janet Grants of Albuquerque, Sue Crites of Albuquerque, Chrystal Short of Bluewater; brothers, Danny Short of Bluewater, David Short of Albuquerque.

Short was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bud” Short and Mary Helen Short.

Tom Silversmith

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Tom Silversmith, 68, will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 24, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. The Rev. Edgar Yazzie will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery.

Silversmith died July 18, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born July 31, 1940, in Coyote Canyon, into the Folding Arms People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Silversmith attended Coyote Canyon Boarding School and Riverside Indian School, Calif. He worked for various construction companies as a carpenter, welder, and painter. His hobbies included basketball, enjoyed watching Western movies, wrestling, listening to Navajo radio station, and being with family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Clyde Silversmith of Phoenix; daughters, Peggy Turk of Toledo, Iowa, Patricia “Paddy” Silversmith of Livingston, Mont.; brothers, Benson Silversmith of Tohatchi, Mike Silversmith Sr., of Brimhall; nine grandchildren.

Silversmith was preceded in death by his son, Craig Silversmith; parents, Russell and Alice Silversmith; sister, Mary Silversmith; brothers, Cecil Silversmith, Jimmy Silversmith.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Katherine White

GANADO — Funeral services for Katherine C. White, 77, were 10 a.m., Monday, July 13, at Presbyterian Church, Ganado. Burial was in private plot, Ganado.

White died July 9, 2009, in Scottsdale. She was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Ganado, into the Edgewater People Clan for the Cliff Dwelling People Clan.

White attended Rehoboth Mission. She was a member of Ganado Chapter and enjoyed time with family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Henry C. White Sr.; sons, Samuel White, Nelson White; daughters, Georgia Crawford, Henrietta Smith, Sylvia White, Gloria Goodman, Christine W. Curley; brothers, Harry D. Curley, Clarence Curley, Webster Curley, Emery Curley; 35 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.

White was preceded in death by her mother, Nahgebah Slivers; father, Dolth Curley; brothers, Timothy, Nelson, Raymond; sisters, Louise Damon, Grace Monroe; sons, Henry White Jr., Robert White; daughter, Ethal White .

Pallbearers were family members.

The family received relatives and friends at Ganado Chapter, following services.
