Deaths

James Nechero Jr.

SCOTTSDALE — Services for James Nechero Jr., 76, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.
Nechero died Nov. 19, 2009, in Scottsdale. He was born in 1933, in Gallup.

Nechero lived in Gallup until 2000. He worked in the petroleum industry until his retirement in 1994. During that time he also served on the City Planning and Zoning Committee for 20 years, on the State Board of Educational Finance for six years, and as a director of Gallup Federal Savings and Loan for thirty years. He was a member of the Gallup Elks and of the New Mexico Amigos for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Lynne; son, Steven of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Jami Nechero of Gallup; step-daughters, Randi Hamilton, Sandi Chavez, both of Los Lunas; brothers, Frank and Bill Nechero, both of Gallup; four grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Palmbrook Country Club, 9350 W. Greenway Rd., Sun City, following services.

William Tsosie Sr.

CHINLE — Funeral services for William D. Tsosie, Sr., 92, will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Chinle. The Rev. Blane Grein, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Coyote Springs.

Tsosie died Nov. 19, 2009, in Chinle. He was born July 24, 1917, in Coyote Springs, into the Red Running Into the Water People clan for the Salt People Clan.

Tsosie graduated from Wingate High School. He was drafted into the Army. His outfit was Company B216th Armored Engineer Battalion and served in Normandy, France, D-Day. He received received several medals including the Purple Heart after being discharged from the Army. Tsosie was employed by the Navajo Nation as a Police Officer. As a Police Officer, he was promoted to Sergeant within the Chinle Community. He was a counselor. Tsosie touched many people with his words of encouragement and wisdom.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor F. Tsosie; sons, Larry, Henry, William Jr., Gary, Michael, Harry; daughter, Lenora, Ruby; brother, Harold Tsosie; sisters, Dorothy Seeody, Zonnie Tsinijime, Sally Tah, Pauline Towne, Ella Begay; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Tsosie was preceded in death by his parents, Daga Tsosie, Lilly Begay; brother, Reed Begay; one sister.

Pallbearers will be Brandon W. Tsosie, Emmanuel Shorty, Nathan Tsosie, Gary Tsosie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Tsosie’s residence, 1/4 miles northwest of Chinle Chapter House, following services.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Anson Yazzie

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Anson D. Yazzie, 63, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. The Rev. Arthur Yazzie will officiate. Burial will be in Lukachukai.

Yazzie died Nov. 20, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born April 15, 1946, i Lukachukai, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Start of Red Streaked People Clan.

Yazzie attended Chilocco Indian School and graduated from Fort Wingate High School. He worked for the Dept. of Human Services, Dept. of Economic Security and Navajo Nation Officer of Youth Development. His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, visiting family members, watching wrestling, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley L. Yazzie of Brimhall; son, Adrian Yazzie of Brimhall; daugthers, Shirleen Long of Standing Rock, Sonya Charley of Farmington, Sherlinda Yazzie, Sherana Yazzie, both of Gallup; brothers, Ben Yazzie, Dennis Yazzie, William Yazzie, Gabriel Yazzie, all of Wheatfield; sisters, Hazel James of Navajo, Elsie Yazzie of Lukachukai, Marie Yazzie of Navajo, Marlan Begay of Tsaile, Nora Yazzie of Blue Gap; 10 grandchildren.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his daugther, Calandra “Dee Dee” Yazzie; brother, Johnny Tully Yazzie; parents, A and Addie Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Yazzie, Nolan Charley, Marvin Long, John Charley, Anderson Yazzie, Felix Yazzie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Wheatfields Chapter House, following services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
