Truckercharged in wreck

GALLUP — A trucker who was arrested Thursday in connection with an accident on Interstate 40 Highway that sent a Department of Transportation worker to the hospital was first suspected of being on drugs when he was questioned by law enforcement officials.

The trucker, Timothy Guyton, 51, from Bossier City, La., was being held in the Gallup McKinley Adult Detention Center on charges of homicide by vehicle/causing great bodily injury by vehicle. The man who was struck, Melvin Johnson, 50, of Continental Divide, was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where he was listed on Friday as in critical condition.
