GALLUP — Even though local union members did not come out in great number to vote on their new collective bargaining agreement, the members at Gallup’s Safeway that did cast ballots were enough for the United Food and Commercial Workers of New Mexico to call last week’s bargaining vote a victory.

Out of 103 eligible UFCW members at the Gallup store, just 28 cast votes last Saturday for the new union contract. The vote took place after two consecutive days of negotiations, which went practically around-the-clock, union officials said.
