Aleixzander Arviso

CRYSTAL — Funeral services for Aleixzander Laurence Arviso (Alex), 37, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, June 9, at Mary Mother of Mankind Catholic Church, St. Michaels. The Rev. Patrick Schafer, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Fort Defiance.

Arviso died June 5, 2011, in Crystal. He was born Jan. 3, 1974, in Fort Defiance, into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Arviso graduated from Window Rock High in 1992 and attended Navajo Community College. He worked from the Navajo Nation for over 15 years. He always offered help to family and friends. While spending time with family and friendsm, his wry sense of humor was welcomed. Arviso enjoyed taking care f his horse, horseback riding and traveling, especially to visit his younger brother in Phoenix. He also worked with the Navajo Nation Labor Commission, Office of Ethics and Rules, Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Office of President/Vice President-Political Appointee, Division of Human Resources-Administration, Department of Personnel Management, Office of Backgrounds Investigations, Department of Child Support Enforcement, Office of Broadcast Services, Design and Engineering Services, Navajo Health Education Program, Navajo Special Diabetes Project, Navajo School Clothing Program, Insurance Services Dept./Worker’s Compensation Program, Division of Social Services-Executive Office, Spherion Staffing Solution Services Inc. in Albuquerque, JC Penney Company in Albuquerque.

Survivors include his parents, Carol Arviso-Begay, Michael Begay Sr.; brother, Michael Begay Jr.
Arviso was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Mary Arviso.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Catholic Parish Hall, following services.

Adolfo Barraza

GALLUP — Funeral Mass for Adolfo A. Barraza, 85, will be 10 a.m., June 9, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Rev. O’Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m., today, June 8, at Rollie Mortuary. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, June 8, at Rollie Mortuary.

Barraza died June 5, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Mentmore.

Barraza was drafted out of 11th grade to serve in the Army during WWII. He was in the 2nd wave at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a bus boy at the El Rancho Hotel in his younger days. He was well known in the Gallup area as the “Partsman”. Barraza worked at WonStop and Napa for over 40 years. He was active in the DAV and VFW, Gallup Chapters. He was an avid bowler and won many trophies. Barraza loved to travel, tinker with cars and eat out. Junk food was his favorite. He loved to spend time with his family and go for rides with his “girls” who he spoiled rotten.

Survivors includes include his sons, Adolfo A. Barraza Jr., Vincent G. Barraza; daughter, Irene B. Sanchez; brother, John Barraza Sr.; sisters, Ann Caraway, Alice Harrison; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Barraza was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle “Libby” P. Barraza; son, Johnny Barraza; parents, Alejo Barraza, Mariana R. Barraza; brothers, John Barraza Sr., Deanna Barraza-Guillen, Melody Guillen-Lucero, Daniell Guillen-Saucedo, Michelle Guillen, Alyssa Guillen.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Billie Long Sr.

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Billie Long Sr., 80, will be 10 a.m., June 9, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. The Rev. Bobby Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in family land, Coyote Canyon.

Long died June 2, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Fort Wingate, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Water Edge People Clan.

Survivors include his wife, Helen L. Long; sons, Jesse Begay, Bruce Begay, Billy Long Jr.; daughters, Shirley Arviso, Lucy L. Ashley, Dorthey Morris, Ruth Tso; brother, Jim Lee; 33 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.

Long was preceded in death by his parents, John Long and Asson Tso Yaz Long; sister, Marie Teller; brothers, Jim Long, Willie Long.

Pallbearers wil be Byron Long, Myron Long, Watson Long, Nelson Teller, Thomas Long, Cory Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Coyote Canyon Chapter, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
