Marshall Chitwood


GALLUP — Memorial services for Marshall Owen Chitwood, 80, will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at St. Francis Church. The Rev. Larry will officiate.
Chitwood died July 7, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 9, 1930.

Chitwood attended high school in Eminence, Mo. He joined the Air Force in 1949. He was in business for 50 years, had a full service station on Route 66, Marshalls Texaco.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret J. Macias; sons, Gary Chitwood of Gallup, Randy Chitwood of Pryor, Okla., Darrell Chitwood of Moore, Okla.; brothers, Melvin Chitwood of Richland, Mo., Stanley Chitwood of Elington, Mo.; sister, Lillian Trinich of Fontana, Calif.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Chitwood was preceded in death by his parents, George Chitwood, Icey Mooney; sisters, Annabelle Buffington, Woble Chaston, Unice Suther, Meryl Dumay, Delvina Snow; brother, Paul Chitwood.

Pallbearers will be Brian Ihnen, Eric Ihnen, Kevin Ihnen, Michael Chitwood, Jay Chitwood, Gary Chitwood.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Betty Guillen’s residence, 1008 W. Princeton, following services.

Ernie Joe

SHIPROCK — Funeral service for Ernie Orlando Joe, 28, were 10 a.m., today, July 9, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Michaels. Burial was in Fort Defiance Veteran Cemetery. Visitation was 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Joe has served four years in the Marine Corp. and was employed with Shiprock IHS.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte C. Joe of Shiprock; daughters, Santae Joe, Sarah Joe, both of Shiprock; parents, Leivis Eaglefeather, Janice Joe; sisters, Jennifer Eaglefeather of Juarez, Mexico, Martha Jurez of Salt Lake, Utah.
Pallbearers were Marine Guard Honor Detail.

The family received relatives and friends at Fort Defiance Chapter House, following services.

Charlene Kaamasee

GALLUP — Funeral services for Charlene Kaamasee, 40, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, at Presbyterian Church, Ganado. John VanEyk will officiate. Burial will be in Kinlichee.

Kaamasee died July 8, 2011, in Cross Canyon. She was born July 22, 1970, in Gallup, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Mountain Cove People Clan.

Kaamasee attended Ganado High and job corps in Phoenix. She worked for IGA, supervisor position. She liked to go for drives, sight see, house mom, spend time with kids, family and listen to music.

Survivors include her husband, Davis Kaamasee; son, Charles Clark of Cross Canyon; daughters, Chantel Kaamasee, Chanti Kaamasee, both of Cross Canyon; mother, Christine Woodman of Cross Canyon; brothers, Darwin Whitegoat of Pinedale, Jo-El B. Yazzie of Cross Canyon; sisters, Marlene Whitegoat of Farmington, Darlene Whitegoat of Cross Canyon, Jolene Yazzie of Cross Canyon, Josephine Whitegoat of Pinedale; grandmother, Margert Whitegoat of Pinedale.

Kaamasee was preceded in death by her father, Levi Whitegoat; son, Levi Clark; grandparents, Myrtle Owens, John Curley Sr., Eli Whitegoat.
Pallbearers will be family members.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Charlene’s residence, 1 1/2 miles west of old Cross Canyon TP, 6 p.m., July 9.

Gary Largo

CROWNPOINT — Funeral services for Gary Thomas Largo, 44, will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at Gospel Lighthouse Mission, Crownpoint. Harry Davis Largo will officiate. Private disposition will be in family plot, Crownpoint.

Largo died July 4, 2011, in Prewitt. He was born Sept. 11, 1966, in Crownpoint, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Largo attended Ganado High School. He worked for the Department of Navajo Head Start.

Survivors include his wife, Rita B. Largo of Littlewater; daughters, Tashia Lita Largo, Raquael Roe Largo, Shelby Anna Largo, Tashina Mary Largo, Gabrielle Gelsey Largo, all of Littlewater; mother, Bessie Largo of Crownpoint; brothers, Larry Largo of Mariano Lake, Harry Largo of Casamero Lake; sisters, Caroline Slim of Crownpoint, Thelma Charley of Crownpoint; grandparents, Mary C. Largo, Jose Largo, both of Borrego Pass.

Largo was preceded in death by his father, Thompson Largo of Littlewater; sister, Louise Largo.

Pallbearers will be Robert A. Herbert, Charleston B. Herbert, Marguiz Litsuie, Chris Charley, Timmie Larson, Tony Largo.

Benny Martin

MANUELITO — Funeral services for Benny Martin, 87, will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Tom White will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.

Martin died July 6, 2011, in Gallup. He was born June 1, 1924, in Crownpoint, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Martin worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, silversmith and chapter PEP.

Survivors include his sister, Virginia Sloan of Crownpoint; four grandchildren.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie B. Martin; daughter, Mary Benally; three sisters; three brothers; parents.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Esitty, Lance Esitty, Ronald Foster, Beau Morgan, Paul McCabe, Dominic Leslie.

The family will meet at Manuelito Chapter House, following services.

Anita Schmaltz

GALLUP — Memorial services for Anita Lorraine Schmaltz, 82, will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at First Baptist Church, Gallup. The Rev. Jay McCollum will officiate. Private disposition will in Sunset Memorial Park.

Schmaltz died July 4, 2011, in Gallup. She was born Feb. 8, 1929, in Winslow.

Schmaltz graduated from Winslow High School in 1947. She was a dedicated housewife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, loved to watch movies and going on picnics.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Schmaltz, Steven Schmaltz, both of Gallup; daughters, Pamela Schmaltz of Gallup, Valerie Tanner of Farmington; sister, Marjorie Whiting of Taylor; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Schmaltz was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Schmaltz; parents, Lyman Bates and Margaret Bates; three sisters; two brothers.
The family will receive relatives and friends at First Baptist Church, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Octavia Fellin Library in memory of Anita Schmaltz.

Tommy Skeet

VANDERWAGEN — Funeral services for Tommy Skeet, 78, will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. James Skeet will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Tree Mission Cemetery.

Skeet died July 6, 2011, in Albuquerque. He was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Two Wells, into the Towering House People Clan for the Salt People Clan.
Skeet finished high school and worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 40+ years. He retired in the mid 1990’s.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie C. Skeet; sons, Ernie Skeet, Benjamin Skeet, Raymond Skeet, James Skeet, Philbert Skeet; daughters, Sarah Skeet, Rhoda Skeet, Lorett Skeet; mother, Money Skeet; sister, Helen Nez; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Skeet was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Lee.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Skeet, Ben Skeet, Kim Wilson, Leonard Chee, Roy Nelson.
