Silver star
Perry Benally receives a Silver Star from Senator Tom Udall in a ceremony at City Hall in Gallup on Friday. Benally received the Silver Star more than 40 years after a combat action during the Vietnam War in 1967. Benally was mortally wounded and, in spite of running out of ammunition and hand to hand combat with North Vietnamese Army soldiers, Benally survived to be rescued a day later - on his 22nd birthday. © 2011 Gallup Independent / Adron Gardner
