Drive-by shooting puzzles victim By Leslie Wood GALLUP Police detectives are interviewing possible suspects this morning in connection with a shooting at a Green Street residence Tuesday evening. Someone driving a red pickup fired a single shot into a residence at the 900 block of East Green Street. The stray bullet struck the 19-year-old resident in the leg at about 9 p.m., Capt. John Allen, a spokesman for the Gallup Police Department, said. The man received treatment for the minor injury at the scene and did not require hospitalization. The victim told authorities he saw a red pickup drive from the scene after the shooting. Authorities were not immediately certain of a motive for the crime. The victim said he has no enemies, Allen said. Allen said police responded to a report of a road rage incident Wednesday night involving the same red pickup. Officers were able to trail the vehicle, but eventually lost it because of the amount of traffic in the area. Officers later found the vehicle abandoned in a downtown alley. Hours later, authorities received a report of a burglary at a residence on the 200 Block of Woodrow Street and apprehended the suspected driver of the red pickup. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting or break-in; however, detectives are in the process of interviewing potential suspects in the cases. A woman who was with driver of the red pickup was taken to NCI because of her alleged level of intoxication. |
