Dorothy Baca
ALBUQUERQUE — Memorial service for Dorothy M. Baca, 71, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, Gallup. The Rev. Lawrence O’Keefe will officiate. Burial will be held by the family at a later date. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., June 14 at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church.
Baca died June 6, 2011, in Albuquerque. She was born July 20, 1939, in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
Baca’s early years were spent in Colorado and in 1954 she moved to Gallup, where she attended Sacred Heart Cathedral High School graduating in 1957. Most of her career was spent in the legal field working for various Gallup law firms. She went on to work for the State of New Mexico’s District Attnorney’s office, Eleventh Judicial District, the Municipal Court and finally serving as Gallup Municipal Judge, retiring in 1995. Baca was active in choir, Glee Club and Cathedral Panther cheerleader for football and basketball in high school. She received a two year scholarship to Draughans Business College in Albuquerue. Durig her tenure as municipal judge, she attended the Judicial College in Reno, Nevada. She was very active in civic and community organizations, most passionate about those that helped the needy, disabled, children and citizens of Gallup. \
he was a member of the Legal Secretaries Association, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Gallup Soroptimists. Hobbies and activies she enjoyed were her weekly bowling league, doll collecting, flower gardening, jazzercise and the outdoors. Her most treasured moments were times spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Baca; daughters, Sandra Lynne Gonzales, Lisa Baca Diaz; son, Mark Baca; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Baca was preceded in death by Joseph Paul Gonzales, Michelle Rene Gonzales.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mother Magda/Casa Reina, Gallup.
KC James
WINDOW ROCK — Services are pending for KC James, 22.
James died June 9, 2011, in Window Rock. He was born June 7, 1989, in Fort Defiance.
A family gathering will be 6 p.m., today, June 11, at Assembly of God church, Fort Defiance.
Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Kermit Johnson
GALLUP — Funeral services for Kermit R. Johnson, 64, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 11, at Rollie Mortuary, Palm Chapel. The Rev. Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.
Kermit died June 6, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 15, 1946, in Fort Defiance, into the Red House People Clan for the Zil kra nii People Clan.
Johnson graduated form Gallup High in 1966 and attended University of New Mexico-Gallup, receiving his AA Degree and Liberal of Arts-Drafting from California Technical School of Drafting. He was a Gallup High School Hall of Fame for baseball. His hobbies included camping, fishing, cookouts, reading and loved all sports, baseball, basketball, football and more.
Survivors include his father, Kenneth Johnson; brothers, Michael R. Johnson, Freddie Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Edward Johnson; sisters, Katherine Billie, Vera M. Damon, Sharon Johnson.
Johnson was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn T. Johnson; grandparents, John Red, Frank and Minnie Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Garrack Begay, Anson C. Damon III, Nathan Damon, Venison Willie, Amos Lee, Anthony Garcia.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
