Paulino ‘Bobcat’ Acosta Jr.
GALLUP — Funeral Mass for Paulino “Bobcat” Acosta Jr., 85 will be 10 a.m. on July 25, 2011, at St. Francis Church in Gallup, NM. Fr. Joseph will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial in Gallup, NM. A rosary will be recited at St. Francis Church at 10 a.m. on July 25.
Acosta died July 22, 2011, in Gallup. He was born June 1, 1926, in Tokay, NM.
Acosta was a World War II Veteran, U.S. Navy, Elks Lodge, VFW. He played baseball for the Gamerco Miners, coached and umpired Gallup Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He retired from McKinley County.
Survivors include his sons Paulino R. Acosta III and David J. Acosta; brothers Apolonio Acosta and Manuel Rodriguez; Sister Mary Morales; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Acosta was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; Parents Paulino Sr. and Maura; Brothers Jesus and Joe; and sisters Trini, Delores, Micheala and Rebecca.
Pallbearers will be Paulino Acosta IV, William Grijalva, Thomas V. Dubois, Paul A. Acosta, Larry Trujillo and Joe Sanchez.
The family will receive relatives and friends at The Elks Lodge in Gallup.
Sammie Legah Jr.
NAVAJO, N.M. — Funeral services for Sammie Legah Jr., 80, will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 25 2011, at the Catholic Church in St. Michaels, Ariz. Burial will be in private land, Navajo, N.M.
isitation will be from 9 -9:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church in St. Michaels, Ariz. A rosary will be recited from 9:30 -10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011.
Legah died July 21, 2011, in Gallup. He was born July 19, 1931, in Ganado, Ariz. into the Hairy Ones, Weaver Clan and the Coyote Pass People Clan.
Legah graduated from St. Michael High School. He was employed at NFPI as a supervisor lumber grader. He loved his grandchildren and San Fransisco Forty-niners. He enjoyed playing bingo and joking around.
Survivors include his sons Irvin, Darvin, Lavon, Sammie Legah III, Valerian, and Aaron; Daughters Delphina and Audrey; Sisters Geneive Stanley, and Rosemary Manygoats; 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Legah was preceded in death by wife Helen Legah, sons Alvin and Marvin; parents Sam and Emma Legah; brothers Freddy Mitchell, Francis Mitchell, Raymond and Norman Legah; And his granddaughter Celeste R. Legah.
Pallbearers will be Valerian Legah, Aaron Legah, Lavon Legah, Orlando Arviso, Michael Legah and Samuel F. Legah.
The family will meet at 6 p.m. on July 22 and 23, 2011, at Red Lake Chapter In Navajo, N.M.
Rose Mann Smith
TOHLAKAI — Funeral services for Rose Mann Smith, 82, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. David ‘Boots’ Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Tohlakai family land. Visitation will be held at Rollie Mortuary, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, July 25.
Smith died July 20, 2011, in Tohlakai. She was born July 8, 1929, in Gallup into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Grandma Rose was employed with Earl’s Restaurant since 1953 and still employed until her death. She was very active. She enjoyed being with her family. Grandma also loved to drive her truck visiting family and friends. She was a very strong person and she enjoyed helping people that needed help. Grandma was also well known in Gallup. She loved going to church serving the Lord and listening to gospel music.
Survivors include her sons, Bennison Smith, Timothy Smith, Silas Smith Jr.; daughters, Rosie Ann Chee, Helen Pinto, Anita Rose Smith, Pauline Smith, Angela Leslie; sisters, Ethel King, Mary Tso; 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren.
Smith was preceded in death by Silas Smith, Nelly Tso, Neomi Williams, Howard Haswood, Yazzie Begay, Artoy Willie
Pallbearers will be Shelton Leslie, Earl Leslie, Arnold Leslie, Cory Leslie, Mathew Chee, Colten Leslie.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Twin Lakes Chapter House.
Rollie Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
