THOREAU — Funeral services for Shawn C. Bennett, 32, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Thoreau Church of God. The Rev. Wallace Begaye will officiate.
Bennett died July 23, 2011. He was born Sept. 20, 1978, in Denver. into the Start of the Red Streak People clan for Towering House People Clan.
Bennett graduated from Thoreau High School in 1997. He was employed with the Sun Fab Industrial at Western Refining as a pipe fitter. Before that he was employed with Matrix as a journeyman pipe fitter along with other various construction companies. Bennett was an accomplish athlete in high school and he earned numerous awards. His hobbies included playing basketball, working on cars and spending time with his three children.
Survivors include his son Quayde Bennett; daughters Chanel and Caprice Bennett all of Haystack; parents Fred and Geneva Bennett of Thoreau; Brothers Shane and Kevin Bennett of Thoreau; sister Sandra Bennett of Alamogordo and grandmother Irene B. Dehiya of Mariano Lake. Bennett was preceded in death by his grandparents Tom and Frances Jack and grandfather John Dehiya.
Pallbearers will be Shane Bennett, Kevin Bennett, Sandra Bennett, Marvin Endito, Noel Johnson, Escadero Tapaha and Patrick Pablo.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Church of God following the services.

STANDING ROCK — Funeral services for Christina Joe, 32, of Standing Rock, will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011. President James Howell will officiate. Services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Gallup. Burial will be at Rehoboth Christian Cemetery.
Joe died on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Gallup. She was born on May 17, 1979, in Gallup into the Towering House People Clan for the One Who Walks Around People Clan.
Joe graduated from Valley High School in Sanders, Ariz, and from University of New Mexico-Gallup with an Associate of Arts degree in nursing. She was a full-time student at the University of New Mexico-Gallup campus with plans to pursue a bachelors degree in nursing. She was the president of the National Nursing Students Association from 2010 and a member of the UNM-G Veterans Student Association and UNM-G Student Senate. Joe was also in the Army National Guard, 1116th Transportation Co., Gallup Division, as Staff Sergeant and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Tallil, Iraq, from 2005-2006. She also served at the Latter-day Saints church callings as primary president and relief society teacher.
Survivors include her husband Jason Joe; parents Mark and Nancy Stevens of Tseyatoh; daughters Chenoa Stevens, Ashleigh Jesse Joe and Cadence Cori Joe, all of Standing Rock; brothers Marcus and Lucas Stevens and sister Cresentia Stevens, all of Tseyatoh, N.M.
Pallbearers will be members of the Army National Guard, 1116th Transportation Unit from Gallup, with escorts provided by the Patriot Riders from Santa Fe and Navajo-Hopi Freedom Riders from Gallup.
Reception will be held at the Army National Guard Armory on Hassler Road in Gallup.
