Edith Irving

 

 

PINEDALE — Services for Edith A. Irving, 79, will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Cope Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Robert Arviso will officiate. Burial will be in Gallup City Cemetery.
Irving died Oct. 14, 2011, in Pinedale. She was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Canoncito into the Sagebrush Hill People Clan born for the Salt People Clan.
Irving was a homemaker. She enjoyed raising cattle and herding sheep. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She also was a silversmith and loved to sing Navajo songs.
Survivors include her son Jones Irving of Pinedale; daughters Annie I. Edison, Katherine I. Tsosie, Lucinda I. Garcia and Zita Irving, all of Pinedale; sister Pauline Chavez; 33 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Nelson Irving; sons David Irving, Leonard Irving and Albert Irving; parents Pedro and Dooni’bah Apachito and daughter Sarah Irving.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Woody, Jessie Woody, Rayveral Edison, Thurman Marshall, Philbert Belinti and Chris Meyers.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Pinedale Chapter House after services.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

John Platero Sr.

CASAMERO LAKE — Graveside services for John J. Platero Sr., 93, will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Rehoboth Cemetery. The Rev. John Albrecht will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011.
Platero died Oct. 16, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Borrego Pass, into the Start of the Red Streak People Clan born for the Hairy Ones ­— Weaver People Clan.
Survivors include his wife Bessie Enrico Platero; sons Ernest Platero of Gallup, Clarence Platero of Thoreau, John Platero Jr. of Gallup, Ronald Platero of Thoreau and Darryl Sandoval of Phoenix; daughters Darlene P. Bekis of Kirtland and Pauline Platero of Thoreau; brothers Leonard Platero of Toadlena. Jimmy Platero of Casamero Lake and Juan Platero of Casamero Lake; sisters Marjorie Tso of Page, Ariz., Lucy Becenti of Crownpoint, Margaret Garcia of Casamero Lake, Lori Martin of Crownpoint, Loretta Platero of Crownpoint and Bernie Platero of Casamero Lake; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Juanito Platero and Hannabah Platero; son Wayne Platero and grandson Ernesson Platero.
Pallbearers will be Karlton Bekis, Marvin Platero, Terence Platero, Kolton Platero Jonathan Vesper and Blue Hawk P. Yepa.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Casamero Lake Chapter House.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Shirley

GANADO — Services for Marie W. Shirley, 77, will be announced at a later date.
Shirley died Oct. 17, 2011, in Fort Defiance, Ariz. She was born June 10, 1934, in Cornfields, Ariz.
Family will receive relatives and friends at 6 p.m. every evening starting Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Shirley residence, one-quarter mile south of Burton Barr Overpass in Ganado.

Geraldine Stivers

ALBUQUERQUE — A memorial service for Geraldine “Gerri” Phyllis Stivers will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2011, at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 4601 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE in Albuquerque. The Rev. Dr. Russell Lee will officiate.
Stivers died October 14, 2011. She was born in 1942 in Rehoboth.
Stivers had many accomplishments in her life, including a career with the federal Government spanning almost 40 years and an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, her greatest joy was her granddaughter, Sarah. Stivers was an avid reader and loved to travel the globe reaching every continent except Antarctica.
Survivors include her daughter Cheryl Post of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Connie Stivers of Oklahoma City, sisters, Adelyn Denet Deel and Beverly Jefferson, both of Albuquerque; brothers, Lawrence Tolino of Laguna, and Donald Tolino of Gallup; granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Stivers; parents, Alyce McCabe Mariner and Kee Tolino; and brother, Leonard Tolino.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 300, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
